Hi all , my 9.5 mm seagate hard drive failed and I ve bought the Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 for replacement however i realize the Hitachi Travelstar Z7K500 is 7mm which is thinner than the original seagate hard drive..
The hard drive fits the port and it works but I am just wondering if there will be any harm to the hard drive or to the port in long term ...

    thank you

no idea about the different sizes so will let someone else answer that.
is the lappy still covered by warranty as the hard drive will be replaced by your supplier.
if its not covered under warranty then check the manufacturers website as i found western digital hd covered by a 5 year makers warranty.

Thanks for your reply MrDJ, my seagate hard drive is still under warranty till 2014..
After 10 months from buying the notebook, the hard drive failed and I had managed to get it repaired directly from seagate europe.
However after around 7 months, I am back to Hong Kong and the drive failed again like it did last time... I contacted seagate but they said they are unable to provide RMA service in several countries in Asia Pacific including Hong Kong..
therefore I need to ask my friends in either US or UK to proceed the return procedure and it will take at least a month as they don't come back to Hong Kong so often ... so i decided to buy a new drive and when the seagate drive is repaired, i may buy a caddy or use it as external back up drive.

Can you close the cover without extra force?

    lol love your photo,
the port fits and the hard drive sits, no extra force needed when i close the cover but worrying if the hard drive is too loose in the case as it s thinner because it was originally designed for a 9.5 mm hd

Was the 9.5mm at 1TB? Those used to be bigger but would fit. The NP8130 was designed to fit the smaller 7mm so you shouldn't have any issues. 7mm is more common as thats the size of most notebook hard drives. I think only certain 1TB are 9.5mm.
