i got this laptop last friday and was running fine when i heard this bleep and clicking noise even when the speaker is turned off. i searched on google and notebookreview and said that it was because of hard drive failure? my laptop isn't even 1 week old and is having this problem?

well its not constant and is sometimes but what can i do? i dont want to send it for an RMA...

i found that if i just do a firmware update on the hard drive that it will fix it? I have a ST9500420AS seagate? harddrive. i can't find any firmware on that but anyone had this problem and was able to fix it?

will that work? in the description it says that it will fix the clicking noise for st9500420as

Could you be more specific on the noise? Was it an audible beep, or more of a grinding noise? The beep can just be as simple as a low battery alert.

That's the hybrid hard drive. I have one of those and my first one was making squeaking noises as well. Most of the time you can just get an RMA to exchange it for a different one.

Did the power settings change that at all? Does yours still make that beeping sound after setting it so?

I changed the battery setting to not shut down the harddrive but it still makes that kind of watering click/blop noise. this sometimes happens. its not one of those bleep bleep bleep noises. its just like dropping something in a cup of water noise. i dont know why. I tried doing that bootable cd thing but i dont know how... and dont even have a cd. i will try that firmware update after you guys say its ok to update it...

the hybrid drive always makes this noise? seagate even confirmed that it makes these noises. i wonder if that update actually works. cus that thread OP said it works.

anyone know how to make it bootable? do i need cd-r or cd-rw? i tried doing it with dvd-r/dvd-rw and i dont know how to make it work.

my harddrive was also making noises, also was only about a week old, and it failed on me. same seagte model as yours, in 750gb. I contacted malibal about the issue and they kindly agreed to send me a new drive.

of course, in your case it could just be the head parking noise, but you never know. i mean i was quite convinced that the noise was normal after reading threads about the normal head parking noises. then it failed. back your data up just in case, before its too late.

what kind of noise was it? mine is not a beep beep noise. it is like some kind of blop + LITTLE clicking noise.
if it failed you mean the hard drive died on you? it doesn't work anymore?
Did malibal send you a new one after you sent your harddrive in?

this one was my thread lol

it wasnt a beep it was a ticking noise, similar to a clock ticking. no 'blop's for me though. and most of the time the HDD LED lit up whenever it ticked. it was actually very quiet. only noticeable when the fan wasnt running or running low, yet audible enough to annoy me.
and yeah the drive died on me. well i could still boot with it, but it BSODed after a couple minutes afterwards. i could barely run seatools before it crashes

I didnt have to send the defective one in. they just asked me to describe the incident, run seatools, and confirm that it fails. then they will ask you for the serial numbers on the face sticker of the drive, then they'll send it over

its been some days since i posted on this thread cus i wanted to test it. but it is still doing it... i'll let you hear what the sound is like.

Flashing HDD Seagate 7200.4 - YouTube

this is someone having the same trouble as me having the clicking and the beep noise. go to 10 seconds and you will hear the beep noise once at like 12~14 seconds. it is the exact same noise. i dont only get that noise but a click and that beep noise. i dont know where the click is coming from tho.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gaming-notebook-forum/547122-seagate-st9500420as-firmware-update.html

i dont know if i should do this... firmware update. is it necessary? i heard some people gets it fixed by this and some dont.

any thoughts on what this problem might be?

EDIT: Also how do you boot from cd? when i restart my compute there are no notices where i can boot from cd. In my bios the boot sequence is Cd drive first then the rest are as default.
    any answers?

One of the function keys on startup should allow you to view and select where you want to boot from regardless of what the boot sequence is in the BIOS. I dunno what that keys is on Sagers through.
