I am looking at buying a decent high performance laptop. I really like the looks of the sage/Clevos. The msi laptops just don't look or feel right. What I have found is a np8180 and a p170em with with these specs.

    The p170em has
    8gigs ram
    750 gig hdd
    3630qm processor
    AMD 7970m
    1080p 90%ngamut screen.

    The np8180 has this:
    8 gigs ram
    500 gig hdd
    128gig primary ssd
    Room for another hdd
    Blue ray burner
18.4 inch screen with 72% gamut
    2670qm sandy bridge
    Duel 6970m in crossfire

These are both around the same price. I don't care about operating systems because I can use anything basically...with the np8180 it has crossfire and sli. The gtx680's are plug and play for single or sli...which I will probably upgrade with in the next year if I buy the np8180. What are your guy's opinions?

    I'd go with the the P170EM because 1x 7970M our performs 2x 6970 plus you'll get a newer CPU.
You mention putting 2x 680M in the NP8180 later, but that probably wont be too cost effective. At this time they are around $800 each, sure the price will go down over time but you're stilling looking a quite a chunk of change for two of them which would be better put towards upgrading to a whole new computer.

I can get a used gtx680m for 500-600 if I am patient enough. So I was thinking about 1000-1300 to have them in a year. I do not really do anything CPU intensive, I just game and watch movies. I am leaning towards the np8180 because of the ssd, 3 hard drive bays, 2 videocads, I like the idea of the upgrade ability. I know it seems like my mind is made up, but I just wanted a 2nd opinion.

Some games are CPU intensive, so do evaluate system requirements of whatever you wish to run on the system before you pull the trigger. I think you'll future proof yourself better with the P170EM as well.

I'm going to have to agree with Hutsady here, though I'm not going to decry: that is a pretty good deal on the 680M. Based on your needs, it will be your call. :)

I'm going to follow up with Prostar's statement on the 680M. I will advise for you to do a little research on the 7970m for the P170EM, should you commit yourself to that card.

If you want to look into getting a 2nd 680M later you are best off buying a current dual card setup with a single 680M now.
