I have an old Sager NP 8790 I was going to resurrect as a spare browsing machine. Currently the display seems to go crazy - little specks and ghosting appear within Windows. At first I thought it was the display, but the specks and ghosting follows the images as they are moved across the display.

My thinking is driver related or vga (radeon 9700 mobile) is going bad. If it is the card, does anyone know if the card can be changed from the system board, or would the whole board need to be replaced?

    TIA

The video card is soldered onto the board in this model so not replaceable.

Service manual is in my sig.

    Edit: Linky

You've confirmed what I was thinking.

I already have the service manual from Clevo's ftp, but only glanced through the topics of Chapter 2 (Disassembly). I didn't see anything about removing the video adapter, and was hoping I had missed something.

    Thanks!
