    Hello,

I just ordered a NP9262 with a quadro FX 1600 card (I will be using this rig primarily for CAD/Photoshop work)

I was wondering if it is possible to put a geforce card (maybe a 9800) in the second GPU slot so I can use the laptop for gaming as well.

Can this even be done on desktops? I am not sure if these two different types of cards would cause problems.

    Thanks for any help,

    Ian

Are you talking about using the cards separately or in SLI? I dont think either will work as SLI reqiuires two of the same card and I just dont think youd be able to use them the other way. You can use your FX 1600 for gaming; its no slouch and should do pretty good in most games.

I was hoping to be able to use them seperately (e.g. Use the quadro when I am doing CAD work, and use the geforce when I am gaming)

From my understanding, the quadro cards are built the same way as the geforce, but you cannot use a quadro for gaming or geforce for CAD because of the way the drivers are setup.

I'm sure it's possible, but it will probably require you to go into device manager and disabling the quadro card and rebooting every time you want to game. Don't think something like this has been tested before though.

No, the Quadros can game, its just they are better for CAD; and the Geforce are better for games, but you are right when you say each card is optimized for either one or the other.

I’m pretty sure you can use drivers to turn that quadro in to a nice gaming card. Why not dual boot, and use one boot for CAD (CAD drivers), and the other for gaming (mod drivers)?

So if I do want to try adding a geforce card to my system, where would I buy a laptop video card?

I bought it direct from Sager, but I cannot find on their website where to purchase a graphics card by itself.

The second video card should come as a "kit" with heatsink and fan already attached, an SLi ribbon cable and a CD with BIOS update and instructions for installing it. I recommend calling them first though and make sure that you get all of the above.
