Alright, so I received a new screen for my laptop yesterday and installed it myself. Had some minor problems with one of the hard drives giving me a BSoD, but reinstalled Windows and it was working.
Before sending the system in for repair, I had been receiving an error 43 on one of my 9800M GTX cards, getting lines on the screen during startup and the GPU was showing up as faulty in device manager. Due to the circumstances (can be read about in my Kobalt rant thread), the GPU was not repaired.
Now, after finally having a working laptop after 7 months, I rejoiced and spend yesterday night on updating my computer and such. I did not play any games, but the previously broken GPU was still showing up as faulty. I went to sleep, school and just got home and turned on my computer. As it was turning on, I noticed the same lines on the startup screens and was thinking that SLI must've been activated. I then opened my device manager to find that the other GPU was now also showing up as faulty with the same error 43. Two broken GPUs with no explanation what so ever. Is this normal for the D901C or 9800M GTX series? I also fixed the fans while repairing the screen (in fact two of them were plugged out after I had sent it in for repair), but after I noticed the fans weren't working (before I fixed them), I never turned on the laptop again until they were working again. Could the GPU still die from overheating? As I said, I did not play any games yesterday and the computer was not very hot (although quite noisy as usual). I simply turned off the computer, went to sleep and today the other GPU was also showing up with an error 43. I haven't used the computer for 8 months since the GPU broke and the other one breaks overnight after approximately 3-4 hours of low-performance use?
I'm guessing this means I need a new GPU, although I would appreciate any feedback on what could be wrong (especially to ensure that it doesn't happen to the next GPU) or ideas if you think either of them can be saved. Suggestions for a new GPU are also appreciated.

I think the first step would be to reseat the screen data cables connections to both the motherboard and physical LCD panel. Especially since you upgraded the screen yourself, this would rule out any loose connections possibly causing errors.

I've had similar problems in the past right after upgrading a screen on a laptop. All of them were solved by reseating the LCD data cables.

Thanks for the reply. I did the two things you mentioned and it's still not working. I also want to draw attention to the fact that the GPU was working right after I installed the screen. It stopped working the next day. Any other ideas?

If that is really the case, then it's not clear whether the GPUs are at fault. It could just be a small crack somewhere on the motherboard that's gotten worse with time.

I think @90% GPUs are gone. Like mine, without knowing WHY.
Could you upload a photo of your sreen showing those "lines" at startup ?
