To anyone that doesn't have a problem running unsigned/Beta drivers, these offer massive improvements.

The release notes show ~10-15% improvement in gaming plus the addition of a slew of new features.

They could potentially make a big difference in the playability in games on the 460m/485m

(They support the 485m in all driver releases now)

Edit: Told me "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware"...weird.

Looks like Nvidia has a compatibility problem as it's listed as supported:

    GeForce 400M series:
    GTX 485M, GTX 480M, GTX 470M, GTX 460M , GT 445M, GT 435M, GT 425M, GT 420M, GT 415M, 410M

And not excluded in the footnotes. It's possible they may not have the needed clevo support baked in until final release, which would require modded INF's to get it working in the meantime.

We have to wait for an inf fix from Atmosk on this forum or laptopvideo2go.com to post their version.

Nvidia official and beta drivers often don't recognize our cards straight from the site. It's always been this way.

I downloaded directly from Nvidia and the driver installed without a problem on my NP8170 with 485m.

Any idea why the GTX 485M doesn't work when it does have the lines in the nvcv.inf?

    NVIDIA_DEV.0E31.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0E31.02 = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M "

Ah, I found the missing line:

Hm, passes the compatibility check, but the installer still fails. I guess it's beyond my ability.

Which model laptop are you on and care to check something for me? Go to device manager, expand display adapters and double click your gpu, go to the details tab and click the drop down to hardware id's and tell me what the first line says.

Same problem for me, mine's an SP8150-S1. Here's the line from device manager:

    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0E31&SUBSYS_51021558&REV_A1

The 270.61 version worked fine for me, but it had 3 lines for the 485M's in the ListDevices.txt:

    DEV_0E31&SUBSYS_51021558 "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M"
    DEV_0E31&SUBSYS_71001558 "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M"
    DEV_0E31&SUBSYS_72001558 "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M"

Version 275.27 is missing the _51021558 line there and the other locations as well...

Sorry, the modded INF does have it. I didn't try it initially since I didn't see the 485M mentioned, but it seems to be installing now, thanks!

I am so amateur at this, so please forgive my 3rd grade question. I just want to do it right. I ran my Nvidia updater and it did find these drivers. It asked me to Download them, which I did. Now my question, or questions rather. Again, sorry for how basic level they are, but I am learning and appreciate the feedback.

    1. I read earlier that with the nvidia update taking you to the site to download etc, you no longer have to do a full uninstall, driver sweep etc. I read on these forums in fact that all you have to do now is run the setup and it does it all for you now. Is this true or is it required that I do a full un-install and driver sweep/CC clean before installing the new ones? I am amateur at this and really don't want to mess up my shiny new toy I just got in the mail :)

    2. I see that everyone is getting the error saying it can not find the hardware. I also see an INF download available here. This is where I get lost. Do I download the INF and unzip the contents somewhere into the Nvidia driver folder I just downloaded? Again, sorry for being such an obvious noob, but I definitely want to do this right.

The clean install methods just delete the older stored game/application profiles, theres already an option in the driver install to do that if needed and it's not entirely required.

As for instructions on how to use the modded INF click the link in my signature for modded infs, I have a picture guide there for how to use them.

I also noticed bigger performance in Witcher 2 but also more point in 3dmark11.

    Previously 3dmark 11 (270.61 drivers) - P3001
    Now 3dmark 11 (275.27) - P3214

seriously? this driver totally WRECKED my system! first i gave it a try without the modded inf, just to check if it works. it didnt so i copied the modded inf and tried again, this time the install went right ahead.

BUT (and a BIG one that is, ghetto-BUT style ;) ): the installation somehow wasnt completed 100%, since it was "only" able to install the graphics / 3D vision driver. After that, my system started going insane! my wireless adapter was gone (didnt appear anymore and no inet connection), the sound didnt work anymore, the graphics driver didnt do whack (aero disabled, crappy resolution, everything "washed out") and uninstalling the driver didnt help either! i tried everything from using ccleaner, restarting several times, cleaned the registry, uninstalled EVERYTHING nvidia related and tried going back to 270.61, everything failed. the only thing left for me to do was use the "repair my computer" option when booting + f8 and do a system restore.

sorry guys, but after THIS no fps increase in the world is gonna bring me to install this crap again! thus waiting for the next version to appear...

    cheers

When NVIDIA releases a BETA driver, they don't take responsibility of any potential problems....like jaybee has told us.

That's why I'll give it a try when it's out of the BETA phase. That's what BETA is for.

Never underestimate having good backups! Having your data on the second drive on the machine is essentially as good as having none. Standard advice is if you care about it, you need at least two backups. One on-site (external hard drive, DVD's, etc) and one offsite (same idea, stored elsewhere or in the cloud).

Trust me, good backups are underrated :)

Keeping only one copy of your data could mean one hard drive crash and bam, all gone. A NAS or home server is a pretty common backup solution.
