Hi guys I used Nvidia system tools/Control Panel to overclock my 285M to:
650/1050/1600, I then apply settings and exit control panel. I click yes to windows remembering my changes on stat up. However every time I restart windows I run GPU-Z and it appears that the GPU has reverted back to stock clocks.

Anyone got any ideas what I need to do ?

As a footnote I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. With the same issue.

I would actually use profiles and load them manually. Do you really want to OC 100% of the time? If so consider nvflash and a new vbios.

Ah ok so your saying just save the Overclock as a profile and then load the profile before I open games and such ? Good point although it will be a hassle changing it all the time :D Will give me a little extra shelf life and less heat on the GPU I suppose.

    Ty Mandrake.

Did you save the OC as a new profile?

I am pretty sure you then set the new profile to run when when windows starts

EDIT: AH beaten to it...but at least I was barking up the correct tree :D

Aye but when you reboot it will load the default profile.
To get it to run from start up Create a new profile and get that to run on windows start up.

BUT.....I totally agree with mandrake only use the OC when you need it.
TBH i wouldnt game with an OC unless the game is unplayable at non OCed FPS.

I would much rather have a reliable system than an extra 5 FPS

EDIT::: I actually use the profiles to DOWN Clock my card at start up. A performance card like yours will cope with all everyday tasks at minimal clocks and just raise the clocks when you are gaming.

Ok ty for opinions i will probably do the latter and only run the OC if needed. However I will try saving the OC profile to see if it works.

When you overclock using Nvidia System Tools, those over clocks only come into actual use when ever you game or when the GPU is pushed or in 3D mode opposed to merely when your system is in an idle state or not stressing the GPU out much.

It is probably better to use a gaming profile for the GPU overclock but if you don't, it doesn't mean that your GPU is going to be causing any system instability because those clocks increase the maximum level they will rise to, not the overall standard level when you are just browsing or watching a movie.

The overclock can still work even if the default profile is loaded and those clocks will only go to that increased level during gaming automatically. With everyday tasks, it will remain lower as usual.

It might stay at those clocks all of the time if you completely disabled powermizer. With powermizer enabled, the GPU clocks will correspond to how much you are using it and for what. In general browsing or video watching for example, it will stay on the 2D clock rates but when you start to game, it will move on to the 3D clock rates. That will be when your over clock will come into use.

This is also why you can disable Powermizer and use Rivatuner to control those clocks instead because you can do settings for 2D and 3D.
