Nvidia WHQL Notebook Drivers Released (GTX285m included!)

Nvidia released new WHQL reference drivers for notebooks today (197.16)

Should be of particular interest to GTX285m owners now that the card is specifically listed as a supported device (previous drivers didn't have the GTX285m listed as "compatible hardware" so the drivers wouldn't install).

As always, Nvidia encourages you to get your drivers from Sager sources because of special features they may have enabled in the driver configs.

I'm downloading now so hopefully I will be able to finally use CUDA apps since the older drivers were not "new" enough (apps required 190.00 or newer drivers to work).

Caveat Emptor. But I'm goin' for it (I can always 'rollback' if it blows up).

nice, 3dmark06 benchmark with new driver gave me a markedly increased score.. the original, stock store was around 148XX.. so not bad at all!

score was derived with unoverclocked gpu's... mainly because i can't seem to overclock these gtx 285m's.. if anybody knows how, please tell me!

Well this is a bummer. My 3DMark06 decreased by over 200 marks. My 3DMark Vantage increased by 50 marks. What's wrong?

Nice! I was just questioning Nvidia's intentions in a post the other day.

I have them installed and will test some games later.

These new 197.16 drivers perform better than the 186.81?
How about going with the Nvidia 280m?
Anyone seen that a result of these new 197.16 drivers with the games, it has more frames with 197.16 or 186.81 are best?

It's safe to update. 197.16 is the same build as 197.15, which I currently have installed now, but with support for notebook cards. The 197.15 build is good.

Yes. I have yet to encounter a driver on this notebook that hinders that function.

listen up fellers this is interesting:

i reported about get crash with that stupid nvlddmkm.sys after logging in. i now found out what was the problem... my system has an ssd which makes my windows booting very fast

so the funny thing is when i login in instant after boot i get the crash

!!! but when i wait 20 seconds at the login screen and then login my system works FINE!!!

what crazy crap is this again Nvidia... are you unable to code some drivers ready for ssd systems with fast boot... really sucks...

but im glad i could figure out that problem

    greetings flode

Could anyone with these new drivers, and System Tools 6.05, and an external monitor using the DVI output, please check if there is any issues? Would save me time and hassle :p

I know that your probably thinking that the rig i have in my sig doesnt have DVI but I have another laptop that has dvi and I tested it with that one :)

So, just to make this clear: If you open Nvidia Control Panel (System Tools 6.05), - Display - Set Up Multiple Displays ... You see the external and the laptop screen there, and the laptop screen has a * , noting it's the primary display? And what happens if you right-click on the screen without a *, and set it to be the primary display . will it stick? Because that is the problem I'm having with drivers newer than the 186.81 and System Tools 6.05; I can't change what screen shoud be primary. I can change it, but as soon as I press Apply it reverts back. Meaning I'm stuck with the external monitor being the primary, which I don't want.

    so forgive my nubbiness,
but i've been trying to install these drivers but each time it says it cannot find compatible hardware, i've even tried using the modded inf from v2g with no success. Yes i've tried a clean install, and driver sweep and w/e else i can think of .....am i missing something here?
I've downloaded the 197.16 from v2g AND nvidia both versions give me the same error message

    nm i'm an idiot XD

    *edit*

so i manually installed the drivers but when i try to install the cpl(control panel) it says it has an error reading the driver files, is this normal?
might just go back to 187.71
