OK I just noticed this... I was checking out my welcome center and at the bottom near my windows key I noticed it said

2 days until automatic activation... Activate Windows now..

Confused I hit activate now and this window popped up saying my key is no good (see pics)

Um how the heck did this happen? All I did was install SP1 and update the BIOS!!!

what the f do I do!

I had the same thing happen when I installed my new 8800M.

Just re-enter the product key on the bottom of your laptop as a 'new key' and it should work fine; it did for me at least.

Updating the BIOS must have changed the motherboard details which triggered windows to think its not the notebook the OEM licence was meant for.

This happens when you change motherboards on OEM licences.

Contact Sager or Microsoft before your notebook locks down

yep just reactivate, no big deal, click type new key and re enter the key from the bottom of the system. and then if its still not activated use the automated phone system to reactivate it..

So use the telephone activation option. I had the same problem last year when I cloned the HDD. Vista decided that it was on a new computer.

According to MS, the telephone number varies depending on location, and should be provided to you as part of the activation process on the computer itself. Also, check out MS KB950929, reproduced on this webpage.

oK i Just typed in my product ID from under the puter and that worked... Microsoft guy said the BIOS is tied to the key or w/e and thats why it reset...

why didnt this affect everyone that updated thier BIOS?
will I have to do this again if I update my KBC/Fan Firmware?

KBC/FAN firmware is software related. You`re good, update without care.

If you haven`t done it before, then yes.
Burn the .iso to disk with Nero backup tool/burn image to disk, reboot, follow instructions, listen to beep,reboot/force shutdown according to instructions, enjoy :)

Fn + 1 is high mode.
Fn + 3 is medium mode. Don't use during gaming.
To get back to auto fan mode after using the above, hit Fn +1

Fn + 2 turns off/on the surround sound.
