    Ok with my new stand the computer screen is positionned a little farther from my eyes than I would like it to be. Lowering the resolution is not a viable option for me so I started experimenting with fonts.

    I've found the "Century gothic" font to be far more clear than Tahoma or Verdana. Give it a 10pt size for Icons, menus and text boxes, and 12pt for Window titles and voila. Also download the ClearType finetuner in the "PowerToys for XP" suite and set it to darker.

    Now I can run happily in 1920*1200.

    To give this a try:
    Display options;
    4th tab (sorry my Win is in french), the one after screen saver
    "Advanced" button
    Now change all the fonts (when not grayed out) to Centry Gothic 10 or 12.
    Now go back to the 1st tab and save your theme in a different file you'll be able to restore.
