I'm looking to buy a laptop for college and for a while now I've been looking at the 2092. I've been holding off on buying it until I needed it, hoping that the price would go down (and it did). Thing is, now there are no matte screens available on either xotic or powernotebooks.

I would really like to get a matte screen on the 2092. Does anybody have any ideas on how I might do this?

Also, has anybody had any experience converting a glossy screen into a matte screen, and what have the results been? Does the image quality degrade significantly?

It's a shame matte screens are so hard to come by nowdays.

I had a glossy that I tried putting an anti reflective plastic filter over. The end result was something not quite 100 percent matte, yet it had very bad washed out color - much, much worse than any true matte screen.

Why has matte become so hard to come by? more expensive to produce?

Less demand than glossy and because of that, companies don't keep them in stock. I also think that not so many matte screens are made as there used to be.

I'll always like matte over glossy, though. I traded a small improvement in sharpness for much more usability and also much less eyestrain. But if I ever want another Clevo with a matte screen, my only choice is now Eurocom/PCMW.

If Sager were to ever sell matte again, I'd even pay equal or slightly more than a glossy if it was a good quality screen.

Well, if you're willing to go a little more out of pocket, why not see if you can buy a matte screen as a replacement part, swap out the screens, and then sell the old glossy screen on eBay?

Good idea. Do you by any chance know which company makes good matte laptop screens? I heard Chi-Mei did, any others?

Btw, thanks everyone for your responses. :)
