So I have a P775DM3 and I finally got around to delidding the processor to give me some headroom.
Since I've purchased the unit I've noticed my 3dmark cpu scores were a bit low. Well I noticed today that when under stress the cpu will downclock itself to as low as 3600mhz across all cores. This is temperature agnostic. CPU can be at 60c and still do this. So I bumped the multiplier up to 4200mhz and same deal. Once all cores are under load be it synthetic or in a game the CPU downclocks to 3600mhz...
Anyone know why this is the case and how to stop it from happening?

If you are trying to use the Clevo control panel to change speeds then that may also be causing an issue. I found it to be pretty rubbish and kept throttling my CPU down all the time so I removed it and put on an earlier Control panel (ending in 50) this stopped the throttling, but that control panel doesn't allow for any overclocking so you have to do it using 3rd party software or in the BIOS

The CPU speed is dependant on the power setting chosen in CC, it would not be doing much unless it actually got involved on that side, so make sure you are set to performance in there and it should not interfere.

Makes no difference what you set it to in the CC, it still messes it up with the latest Control panels. fans are all over the place as are the reported temps, install the older CC and the problems go away but you lose the overclocking software

That's why I use the version ending .50. Still gives you the basic CC functionality but without the XTU. I've installed 5 P775DM3's and 1 P870DM2 so far and all have issues using the later CC
-
I disable all sleep and hibernation functionality on everything I own, so I am thankful that I don't have to care about that being an issue that affects me. I simply turn computers off when I am done using them.
I really don't have any use for the Clevo CC bloatware except to change keyboard backlight color. I wish Clevo would make a totally standalone LED control utility. I'm going to see if I can figure out is there is a way to treat it like a portable application just for the LED color controls. I don't really care if the rest of it doesn't work, since I find no value in the other features.
Actually, my preference would be to have white as the default keyboard LED color. If that were the case, I'd never even entertain the idea of downloading Clevo CC because I would never have any desire to ever change the keyboard backlight color.Papusan, steberg and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

Man i just learned the hard way that you DO NOT want to OC with the Control Center app...
At the moment nothing seems to do a better job then ThrottleStop_820. And then you can make different profiles with it, one for maximum power, other for battery, other for gaming, so gooooddddd!
My experience with the Control Center app is nothing but plain BAD! First there´s bugs in some OS languages, then you can´t use your mouse since the value scales are insane (tip: click then use keyboard arrows for setting up desired value) then even with fixed voltage/offsets/power limits, values don´t STICK, values get reset for no reason, there´s no way to save profiles, bahhhh frustating if you ask me.
With throttlestop you can get really nice power from the CPU, and if you think things right you should make a profile for CPU only apps, one for CPU+GPU apps, one for Games and one for Battery.
The shared heat-pipe coolers are something VERY troublesome, it makes it even more hard to find the perfect ballance.
For instance, the max temperature of the CPU in a CPU only Render can be, for example, 88ºC, if you add GPU to it the CPU will probably go up untill it throttles, because of the extra heat from the shared heat pipes... i wish there was no such thing
My current unit uses throttlestop with 4 profiles:
-CPU Intensive
-GPU +CPU Intensive
-Gaming
-Battery Mode

I run 4.4Ghz for gaming and 4.6ghz for benchmarking as my sweet spots so far.

I'll have to see if throttlestop does anything for me, i've been getting some nice results with the clevo software and XTU personally.

I'm still in my 20s unlike you 2 old farts @Mr.Fox, @Papusan...
Jokes aside, I will give the Papusan version of Throttlestop a try on my P771ZM this weekend or Monday..
