this is interesting. the update installs on my machine, but the driver complains about an incompatible card... switching back to 10.4 gives a working configuration, installing the update does not.
    Hm....

Unless 10.4 is broken for you and you are certain 10.5 will fix your problems, or you want a feature provided by 10.5, I would not perform any upgrade ;)

I do agree with you neenee, but a non working graphics driver package is always suspect.
Nevertheless, I'm running 10.4 as it is...

BTW MrDJ; I get no go with the 10.6 drivers either.

Under Win7 x64, the system does not load the 10.6 driver, complaining about failed signature.

With disabled signature check, the system seems to load the driver, but it locks the system into a black, non-responsive state.

I get the exactly same behaviour under Linux.
X -configure gives a segmentation fault, all other uses lock the computer.

So on my W860CU, only the 10.4 drivers work.
    Tried all BIOSes since .11.

I have even loaded the W870CU .12 BIOS. No difference.

Anyway, the basic truth is still there; the computer works - sort of - with 10.4, so there's no need to update the driver.

I suspect that my card has an unusual ID. It identifies itself as a 68a0. Under Windows, this ID does not result in the "Mobility Radeon" signature. So something is fishy here....

Lol I was even thinking about jumping aboard and get an other notebook. Like the M15x. haha.

Do you have the newer 5870 bios as well some shipped with an older vbios.

Actually, the vbios was the ol' .13.

Updated to .18 and suddenly the 10.6 drivers install and run smoothly. Now I'll just configure the temperature and load monitoring.... :)

I have the 5870 on the w870cu, this is the info I get for the vbios:
    BIOS Version 012.019.000.003
    BIOS Part Number TS35951.018
    BIOS Date 2010/02/09

Sorry for the dumb question, but which value do you use to determine the vbios version? Do i have 003? I have 10.5 installed and they are working fine for me so far.

Works fine for me after using driver sweeper. Dont see any major increases in performance though.

    My bios:
    BIOS-version 012.019.000.003
    BIOS-partnumber TS35951.018
    BIOS-date 2010/02/09

Exactly the same in other words.

10.6 installed fine on my w860cu with a 5870m with this BIOS.

    I bought a clevo 860cu recently with a 5870 vidcard.

When I tried to install the 10.6 drivers I had exactly the same problems as Bekkra had.

I have never flashed vbios before, and also having hard time to find which one I have currently.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Sol

EDIT: I found my current version, which is the .013 ones. Anyone know where I can find teh so called .018 bios to get these new drivers to work?

Well, I tried the 10.4 drivers, these dont work for me either...

    Two sources:

    1. Straight from Clevo: ftp://usftp.clevo.com.tw/ALLBIOS/W8xxCU/

Have to use Chrome or Firefox to get in. With IE8, it will ask for a username/PW. Once in, click on "ATI_018.zip", and it downloads automatically. BEST, SAFEST SOURCE.

If you're referring to the atiflash.exe utility included with the download packages, that is a DOS program which has to be run from a DOS-bootable USB flash memory stick or a DOS-bootable CD. The memory stick is easier to work with.

There is a Windows program called Winflash that allows you to flash your card's vbios from within Win7. It entails somewhat more risk because a Windows malfunction which interrupts the flashing process could result in a bricked card, but has the advantage of ease and simplicity. WinFlash is available here: techPowerUp! :: Download ATI Winflash 2.0.1.11. If you use Winflash, click on Load Image, then load the file TS35951.018 extracted from the download package and click on Program. After flashing is complete, reboot and you're finished.
