Yes i used that bios for i9 coffee lake, and than laptop wont boot ,but is not soo bad ,if you got an programmer in 30 minutes you can fix it again (opening the laptop, flash, etc),with this bios from here was working without programmer only thru usb stick, but with coffee lake only with programmer working (for me).And my programmer is Skypro and is very good and easy.

This thread is for 8th gen.

For 9th gen you want the BIOSes from the coffee lake REFRESH thread

Quick question for you fellas... I got my p870km1 from HID evo... once I flash bios for 8700k to work on my PC will I lose the unlock bios from prema pre installed in my laptop? or will it just unlock the ability to run 8700k and leave unlocked bios options alone?

The P870TM 480W system power limit was something I was a bit concerned about, but must be in the EC firmware code, which is separate from the BIOS and isn't changed. Premamod EC seems to work fine with dsanke custom BIOS on my DM3

I flashed my p751dm-g and now I have a black screen boot just like @philstopford so it seems.
I will have to find a programmer or someone to help me reflash it.

@DaMafiaGamer any idea why this happened to our systems and will the bios really work?

These are my old bios versions
    Bios version 1.05.04THG from Hansung
    KBC/EC REV 1.05.01
    ME FW version 11.0.0.1178

    Hello Mapl,

You need a good programming device. I recommend the TL866II Plus. But you can also use SkyPro. Where do you come from, I mean from which country?

To switch in a more common language that is understandable by the others as well:

No, not directly. I haven't bricked any mobos at all yet *knocking on wood* but many MXM's in the past. I am not sure, if you can use a programmer to reflash corrupt vBios chips as well?

I'm still puzzled that it fails on these particular machines; it's a little disappointing, but at least there's a second person who had the same black-screen-of-death. I'm curious to know whether it persists even after @Mapl reprograms the flash with a hardware approach. I could only run the shipping BIOS on my machine, it seems. Even using the hardware approach to program the EEPROM, it would only yield a black screen at power on.

    I know the problem:
It could be the programming tool, the version!
Programming software brings the most errors. Better to use a device!

I used a SkyPro to reprogram (once the software approach failed). The system would only successfully boot with the original BIOS (that I backed up using the software approach). Flashing with any other BIOS (from this thread or the other one), I would only get a black screen - both for software and hardware programmer.

There seems to be a genuine incompatibility that I don't understand.

If it really is a chip problem, then it has to be changed, so soldering.
But there can also be many other reasons why a card doesn't work properly. E.g. Clip has bad contact, a cheap device usually works worse!

Did you also check the Rome with the original Rome several times after flashing to avoid mistakes?

Have YOU checked the ROM again after flashing by reading it out?

@radolf : yes. With the software programmer, and also with the hardware programmer, no errors were ever reported. Writing back the original backup was also fine. Once I had the hardware programmer available, I tried several times with each of the Cannon Lake and Coffee Lake BIOSes and neither would apply without a black screen. The original BIOS could be easily restored, so I would find it very difficult to believe the programming approach was flawed.

The VBIOS update also took (through software) without any issue.

The only thing I can think of is the ME tool from Prema, which was used a while back. I'm not sure whether that might explain what is going on - the mechanisms there aren't clear to me at all.

Maybe this tool from Prema(ME-Tool) has achieved something. What should this tool be intended for?

    @radolf: Here's Prema's tool for the ME situation http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/important-security-updates.811312/

I ran this at the time, largely because I have no vendor support for my machine (second owner) so get no firmware updates of any kind from them.

For the BIOS topic, I don't remember which I tried first (Cannon Lake or Coffee Lake). I did apply the VBIOS update for my GTX 1060, as instructed, which applied with no trouble. I then applied the BIOS update using the software tool, following the instructions carefully. I took a backup of the original BIOS at the time, and have that stored safely.

The software BIOS attempt failed, leaving me with a black screen at power on. I got hold of a SkyPro II USB programmer and clip and wrote the backup BIOS back to the EEPROM. This recovered the machine. For the sake of it, I then retried the BIOS update using the Coffee Lake and Cannon Lake files, each time using the one seemingly intended for the P750DM2G era machine. Neither approach worked (although the programmer indicated success, and it manages to write back the original BIOS without any trouble).

It was a while ago, so specifics escape me about which precise files and what order. I'm not currently minded to take the thing apart and try again, though.

I understand your execution as follows: You wanted to update your Vbios of your map to GOP version 0x30006. Then you made the Coffee/Canon-Lake Bios update. After that your laptop didn't work anymore. Is that right?

An error may have occurred during the first reading of the Vbios! Then you always flash a faulty file (backup), is one possibility.

Did you flash the Second EC?

Do you remember if you are using EC version 1.06.01?

@radolf : The VBIOS was updated to 0x3000A, I think. The laptop was working fine after this (and indeed is running this VBIOS right now without problem, with the restored original BIOS).

It was only failing to work when I tried to write the Cannon Lake / Coffee Lake BIOS.

I'm not sure what EC version I am running, and didn't find anything around to update it. I just used the files provided in the BIOS packages, and the instructions in each case. They don't appear to have EC related files, so if there's a recommended (and known to work) EC update around, I'd be somewhat interested in it (along with recovery options in case the update fails or breaks something else)

So, if you really updated your Vbios to 0x3000A, then it should work! 0x30006 is older and 0x3000A younger....
But if you're not sure if you updated to 0x3000A, then it might be the reason why it doesn't work.

Despite the above, errors may still have occurred while reading the Vbios rom and you have been working with a supposedly bug-free rom all along!
The EC-ROM was just a question, it's not that important. But I would flash the last official ROM if you tried it again!

Here is a list of most GOP versions:

The 'I think' was a hedge as I know I updated. The package has 0x3000A, but I couldn't see a corresponding string in the device properties to confirm.

What was important was that you really checked the string. This tool would have been important! Check_GOP_Version.bat
This mini program is included in the Coffee/Cannonlake Bios Mod package...

@radolf : that does indeed show 0x3000A in the output. So, we're back to head-scratching about why the newer BIOS (Coffee Lake / Cannon Lake) won't apply to this system without a black screen. :)

    Okay!

Did YOU really use your programming device to read and check the new BIOS several times with BIOS in the package Coffee/Cannonlake Bios Mod? The best way to check is to use a hex editor.
You close the software for the programming device, then start it again and repeat the procedure. With each read you check with the Hexeditor with Bios from the Bios-Mod file.

That's not what I meant! You really have to rule out any source of error. Therefore I recommend you to check the read out Bios with the original BiosMod file after each reading procedure afterwards with a Hexeditor!!!!!!

Given that I could readily write back the original BIOS on multiple occasions, I don't really think that's the problem here. For example, after the initial recovery of the machine, I did write (using the hardware programmer) both the Coffee Lake and Cannon Lake BIOS files to the EEPROM. Each one failed, and in between I could recover the machine using the backup BIOS with the hardware programmer. I tried a few times (since I had the machine open) for each case, and they always failed and the backup BIOS worked every single time.

So, I really don't think there was a programming error - the backup BIOS would have failed at some point as well, but never did.

It seems more likely that there is an incompatibility

You also made sure that there are two versions for your model? Surely you took the version without the addition Maxwell.

There were also several problems with the panel and CPU support. Maybe the Second EC really needs to be updated first!

I've no idea how to update the EC, or where to find such an update (or how much risk would be involved).

Also you have to check if your programmer supports the SPI-CHip(GD25D10B)?
If the wiring diagram is correct! You have to look at the chip again! You can try this version 1.06.01 times! It does not say that it is only for (-G). Maybe it goes with it...
Here is a link from the last EC, but only what I know!

What else I wanted to ask, which GOP version had your GTX1060 before the update?

P750DM-G with gtx980m User here. My laptop currently is installed with the i5-6600K. And after I flashed the coffee-lake bios mod successfully, there is no image on the screen but the fans and hard drive are running. Should i try install the i5-8400 to see if it still able to boot. or the motherboard bios chip (GD25B64bSIGR) have to be flash via CH341A programmer?

and one more question, do i actually need to isolate the 2 pins? I am abit confused by that part of the instructions.

    many thanks.

Per the BIOS provider, it should support the existing CPU in your system (the BIOS just adds the support for the newer chips). I think this is another confirmation that there's some kind of incompatibility between the BIOS and some P750-DM / P750-DM2 (also G) systems (there are 3 reports that I can think of, including mine).

Also per the original poster, you'll need a hardware programmer to recover the machine (I hope you backed up the BIOS safely before you wrote the new one)

I did backed up the previous bios before i wrote this one. But it is backed up by the software EFI, does that mean i can hardware reprogram the chip by using backup.bin file? My CH341A also seem to have difficulty detecting the chip.

Which software and hardware do u use for programming the chip? not sure if CH341A able to do the job using the skypro usb software.

Sorry, i am kinda a newbie here.
