so who has pre-ordered this beast!specs please!
-
-
Have you?
Waiting for some reviews before shelling out a small fortune.
Really excited about it! -
i must admit it is a verry nice beast.
it was sooo sweet having the worlds first prototype displayed on the kobalt stand at the gadget show in the uk.
it sounds like there might be a slight delay having them sent out from clevo but trust me it will be worth the wait. -
wish i could cancel the M17x order i made. spec for spec, i'd be saving 600 USD. and i get 18.3" instead of 17". without the 2nd hard drive which i don't want, i'd save some more.
the only relevant thing the sager doesn't offer is the BD writer but i don't want that anyway.
but i don't know why they didn't put in the core i7. probably a space/size/cooling issue. -
if you havnt received it yet you can still cancel. you also have a 14 day return policy (i think) but then you get charged a re stocking fee.
-
Was there some announcement of a delay on the 9850 MrDJ ?.
-
I want pre-order it!
but how easy it is to update? like the memory ram, do we have acces from the back? or we have to unscrew the keyboard and then we have acces to it
like here "http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/575ef11e09.jpg"
Also, does any sata blu-ray writer will work on it? It cost less to buy it at ebay -

Ken at Gentech PC offers pre-orders here:

And yes, any SATA 12.7mm form factor BR Writer should work fine. Here is a nice one:

I am looking at this Sager REAL hard right now. My experience with the ASUS W90 has not been a good one, to say the least, and the NP9850 is looking MIGHTY fine to me. I am just awaiting Ken Lee's evaluation & testing of this model. I am very hopeful this unit has good thermal properties, fan control, and limited noise. If it's baby brother (M17x reviews) is any indication, I see GREAT things ahead in the NP9850.
VERY HOPEFUL! I may be joining you great Sager/Clevo folks, real soon!
-
Maybe ill receive one next week, but with only one VGA.
-
soz, forgot to add a rep to last post +1 rep.
as it says on the results it was using the evaluation/prototype so the scores will be a lot higher than those shown. it must be the same one kobalt had first and that one needed a bios update and 2 graphics cards and not one.
we are all waiting for the final results with anticipation. -

Yeah, that review was done with only one 280m card, and a C2D X9100 processor. I expect GOOD things ahead with the QX9300 & SLI. Here are some nVidia 280m related links:

Should one buy the QX9300? I've heard it suffers from heat-related issues. Can someone elaborate?
-
This machine will have 0 heat related issues with the Qx9300. Some of the smaller machines they have been stuffed into can get a bit toasty but this one will have no problems keeping it cool. If your going to buy one of these a Qx9300 would be the most ideal processor to toss in it .
-
just a little heads up we have I think, 2 maxed out m17x shipping this week and a couple mid range m17x's
2 will be here tomorrow (supposedly )
check for performance bench marks ... should be the same as yall's
the first shipment was shipped so who know exactly how many.
(not trying to troll just figured yall wanted bench marks ETC) -
I should be interesting to see what they can do and how they stack up against one another. -
yay i didn't get flammed lol
i'm really excited my m17 sells in 13 hours and ill be placeing my orders then whooo -
Not loyal to any particular brand just power.
Either way both systems should kick the crap out anything that came before it. -
M980NU got delayed?
-
-
longer battery life is nice as well.... and I call AW section my home -
we have confirmed that the qx9300 has unlocked multilpliers
right now it has been confirmed you can OC to at least 3.2 ghz
in the M17x
well guys you can unlock multipliers and adjust FSB in bios -
I hope M980NU give us the OC options... -

OMG 3 hard drives wow!!! .... lol i know ...
as far as upgradeing, yea you do.
and i rather like looking like a nerdno use denying it ....
-
idk looking at both of these. seen some of the first real life user pics in the AW lounge and it doesnt look nerdy at all, looks well built and actually pretty professional, probably gonna buy that
-
15 727 in 3dmarks with qx9300 @ 3.06 ghz and SLI 280m gtx all stock no tweaking
10,300 in vantage all stock -
Impressive scores!
Vantage the real benchmark ,was quite informative, it is confirmed the AW MX17 kick's some major @ss! -
well it remains to be seen the true score dox drivers and little tweaking you could hit 11,000 easy
-
. But hey never say never .

My config is:
p8700 (selling later and buying qx9300)
320GB 7200rpm 16mb cache
80gb kingston SSD x-25m (bought seperatley)
Gtx280m x2 sli
4gb ddr3 1333 mhz
Windows 7 Rc1 64bit (comes with HP 64bit)
(going to buy on June 22nd when you get the free window 7 upgrade when it comes out) -

I've had an Alienware m7700 for three years now and have had nothing but problems with it. Having the glowing blue Alienware on the front is cool, but the blue screen of death on the other side takes away from the fun.
As long as it doesn't have any overheating problems, I'm definitely buying an NP9850 through XoticPC. Really bummed that it won't have an i7, though. -
Miss Malevolent Notebook Consultant
Am I the only one that really doesn't care about i7 on the 9850?
I mean to me it's the best in terms of being BOTH a workstation AND gaming rig.
You get a quad processor in there, that will take care of most of your workstation needs...then the top of the line video cards...and bam GAMING! -

Hmmmm, looks like the M17x has stole all the thunder here, for now. I think we have a 'sleeper' here folks!

Those who are saying I7 doesn't matter when it comes to comparing it to QX9300 need to look up Hyper Threading features of I7, Socket LGA 1366 vs PGA 478, FSB vs QPI. I7 and QX9300 are almost capped at same MSRP of 1000$. I have been researching and can not find any info is to why I7 is not/can not be coupled with 280 SLI in a laptop.
An I7 in M980NU with 280 SLI will rightfully be called the Mightiest of Laptops every built. For now QX9300 is a runner up.
QX9300 will still provide a balanced approach to workstation/gaming when coupled with 280 SLI. -
In M980NU, the space is enough to put i7 socket (I think), but Clevo use 9400m chipset and AFAIK that chipset doesn't support i7.
Just wait for the next generation of M980NU and I think we will get Core i7 + 280M SLI (or faster GPU)
PS: My statement above didn't count in the thermal budget and other technical requirements for i7 + SLI -
Isn't i7 about 20% than core 2, or more if the program can take advantage of its features? The biggest difference between the QX9300 and the i7, is that the i7 is still a desktop cpu, with 130w TDP, the qx9300 is 45W. Computer with the qx9300 will actually be somewhat portable and have more than an hour battery life. Also the i7 doesn't help too much in gaming, so the only advantage would be that the 2.66GHz i7 is cheaper than the QX9300. Now most people (like me) got their QX9300 off ebay for about $450 or an ES for $300, so considering that you can get the m17x for about $2500 with duel GTX280ms and better screen and another $500 for the processor, 200 so for other. When givin the choice of duel 280ms or an i7 of course the core 2 with sli is going to be a better gaming machine, so the m17x is just a better gaming computer than the np9850. Also the portability aspects of the 9850 probably had people thinking "why not just a desktop"?
-
Quote Xhibit "Computer with the qx9300 will actually be somewhat portable"
You would think that 18.4 inch of space is sufficient for an I7. Xor01 above made some good arguments as well. -
The power is too much. You can't have 130 watt i7, sli 75 watt GPUs, and all the other things in a laptop and still call it a laptop. For one, you'll never see an hour of battery life, and two, the power brick would be asburd. The thermals would be absurd, the laptop would be 3" thick, it would just be a dumb idea. For a gamer, the i7 does not mean much yet because the i7 is well beyond what 2 petty laptop GPU's can render.
The M980nu makes plenty sense as is, I am glad to see they chose a 9400M Nvidia chipset and made some cosmetic improvements, and kept the same cooling design as the D900. This laptop won't disappoint! -
