Wow, you and crow in a class of your own!
-
he gave me inspiration........
-
Buy a desktop....
people have too much money these days and nothing to do with it. -
would love a desktop but no place for it. live in nyc and dont have a ton of "extra" room. this is perfect for me despite the premium i need to pay...
-
Hope you like your new purchase. Why the SSDs though?
-
Cheers! -
-
Holy crap, you guys must be LOADED!
-
...actually 8,192MB!
LMAO -
Crow you did what i was thinking of doing but i kept telling myself i was nuts so once you did it I figured there was power in numbers. i went to the site everyday for last week and config'd one only to keep changing HD options etc saying "did I really need it?". but then once you did it i reminded myself this whole journey was not about NEED...it was about WANT.
-
Welcome to the family!
Wow 3x SSDs. That is absolutely insane. -
There you go...
You would have been kicking yourself in the a$$ once you received it if you had wanted it and didn't get it.
That's why I went back and added the Q9550...wasn't smart $-wise but what the hell I'm already paying $6K+ for a freakin laptop.
 -
OK who's next to hop on board the "MAX WAGON"...
Come on...you know you wanna...
There's plenty of room! -
Me: Jesus, may I have one of those?
Jesus: LOL!
Congrats on that beast. -
I ve ordered mine but I only have 2x128 SSD in RAID0
-
Congrats! Quad Core Q9550, 9800GT SLI, Raid 5 128GB OCZ, that's madness!!!! You are the king!!!! (At least until the SLI 9800GTX comes out, that's what I'm waitin' on, baby!)
-
there is always somethign to wait for..............
i was trying to talk myself into waiting for the next sli but my heart would not let me wait. wonder how long it will take to receive it
-
3-7 days to ship...
I got the next day air shipping.
It will apparently ship from California, so an easy 4-5 day ship to NY after the 3-7 days needed to build and test.
EDIT: If you didn't get the UPS RED -
you might find this funny but i went with the cheapest shipping option.........that is where I decided to cut back ROFL
-
baziado, I noticed that you passed on any sound card upgrades. Any certain reasoning for that?
-
i will use my bose headset mostly and i also have a spare card from my dead alienware if needed
-
-
Don't forget your notebook COOLER! Another $75.
-
look at the config..i added the notebook cooloer already
. still to cheap to upgrade the shipping. frankly if you are paying over 5k for a notebook shouldnt the company just ship it to you quick on their dime?
-
Hi Baziado,
I am Blind as a Bat.Saw it.
BTW, you would think they would want to get it to ASAP, before you can change your mind.
G! -
-
holy crap! 3SSD!! nice one bro.. welcome!!
-
-
-
i agree with both crow (my fellow maxed owner) and Dit. i run a businees that ships a ton of stuff and fuel surcharges in Q1 have been nearly 35% so i get it. BUT you should get a little something. even ground would be fine as Dit says or some freebies in the box
. maybe a free skin or paint job
-
I've always purchased things maxed out. I'm not sure why, but I like things with all the bells and whistles, whether it's a car, motorcycle, boat, and esp. if it's a notebook. But I'm also a haggler and have always been able to convince the seller to throw in some freebies or free upgrade. Even if it's something trivial like free ground shipping, free car wash for a month, car mats, oil filter, or even a lousy t-shirt...as long as it's free I feel some sense of... victory.

LINK
I won't post the entire write up, but it's a rather good article. -
I would think thrice before buying SSD, those things don't have a lifespan that justifies the money spent.
-
A careful reading of the article indicates that (i) there is no rational, or even coherent, definition of price-gouging, and (ii) the biggest non-supply-related factors in pricing are anti-economic government regulations, specifically, inconsistent local blending regulations, and forcing refiners to sell off any retail stations they own - the first, as the article states, "the proliferation of different environmentally mandated gasoline blends has reduced the ability of firms to ship gasoline from one region to another in response to supply disruptions" and the second has in fact increased prices by resulting in a double markup, once by the refiner and a second by the retailer, in lieu of the single markup charged before, thereby taking from consumers the benefits of vertical integration.
Essentially, as the article admits, retail price fluctuations for gasoline are predominantly driven by the price of crude oil, which, I don't think I need to remind anyone, has gone through the roof - largely due to increased demand from China and India, and deflation of the dollar due largely to intentional Congressional policy, and only aggravated, not mitigated, by governmental regulatory interference.
God save us from the price regulators, because to date their only efforts have, in fact, led to higher, not lower, prices. Just like the misbegotten abortion of rent-control in the soviet socialist republic of New York.
To go back on topic; I'm not sure if I'd prefer some sort of "freebie" from a seller, or just a lower price - in which case my "freebie," if you will, is the extra cash I get to keep in my pocket, that I can spend, or not, as I choose, on something else I want. I'd happily forgo a free T-shirt for knocking an extra $10 off the price. -
just got an update...............I have entered phase 2!!!!!!!!!!!!! what do you think Apuleyo means when he says the lifespan wont support the price? will this thing die on me sometime over the next 3 years until i upgrade to the newest beast?
-
@Shyster
With all due respect, would the Senate and Congress address it if it weren't an issue?
Have you ever noticed how gas prices tend to spike around Independance Day ... and other holidays...just to recede by a few pennies afterward?
If you don't see it and it doesn't bother you then that's great.
Back to Topic:
As far as the lifespan, I have a complete care warranty coming...and I'm sure I'll replace them by the time my warranty expires as technology improves...and the size of the SSD drives increase and the cost decreases.
For now, though, they should be prime! -
-
The surest sign of a bad idea is that the Senate and the House of Representatives (last time I checked, the Senate was still a part of Congress) are taking it seriously. Military generals have historically been faulted for always fighting the previous war; however, much, much worse is the tendency of any self-aggrandizing legislative institution such as Congress (i.e., both the Senate and the House), once freed from the traditional checks and balances, to prefer the sugar-coated nostrums of fantasy to the hard-headed cures of reality. Particularly these days there is a decided lack of basic economic understanding amongst most of the political class - perhaps a passing grade in Economics 101 should be made a Constitutional prerequisite for holding any legislative office?
Let's try to apply a little of that Econ 101. What happens when a holiday, such as Independence Day, approaches? Amongst many other things, we all know that a lot more people than usual will be driving. Now, what does that mean? That means that there will be a lot more people than usual wanting to buy gasoline. Now, what does Econ 101 say about the dynamics of the supply-demand curve when you increase demand for a given commodity? That's right, both supply and price increase, so that, once price equilibrium is reached, you have more gasoline being supplied, but at an overall higher price per gallon.
Now, what happens after a holiday, such as Independence Day, is over? A lot fewer people will be driving than were driving during the holiday, and consequently, there will be fewer people trying to buy gasoline, and thus the demand for gasoline will fall. Once again, in accord with orthodox principles of supply and demand, as the demand curve falls, both the total supply and the price per unit fall, so that once we reach price equilibrium again, you have less gasoline (less than during the holiday, that is) being supplied, and at an overall lower price per gallon (less than during the holiday, that is).
Yikes, what a simple explanation; much simpler than the sort of baroque machinations needed to explain the theory of non-economic price-gouging. If by nothing else, Occams Razor says that Econ 101 triumphs, once again.
Bottom line, if you don't like holiday price increases, don't buy gas during a holiday - no-one's forcing you to buy (except in the soviet socialist republic of New York, where the "geniuses" of city council have decided that taxi-passengers should be forced to pick up the gas bill by tacking an explicit "gasoline surcharge" onto the fare structure).
Here's an even better idea - since you obviously pay attention to the day-to-day variation in gas prices, down to the last penny, why not graph the data, analyze it to determine when the last possible moment is to guarantee that you can buy at the non-holiday prices is, and then just fill your tank up at that point in time, as well as a few jerry-cans if one tank-full won't be enough to last you until the holiday-crisis is over?
How come you can so effortlessly apply basic economics, but the solomons in Congress cannot? -
hmmmm i think i bought the best warranty i could buy...it was 3 years parts and labor plus the accidental lcd is that considered the complete care?
-
yea i'm gonna hit up the 3 years parts and labor too, I don't know about the accidental lcd portion. So is that covering you if you, accidentally damage your lcd? What are the chances you would damage your lcd particularly accidently? Unless accidental lcd covers all accidental damages, I don't really see the value of it.
-
-
pilot i am not really sure just wanted to make sure i had everything covered.
I was going to start another thread but thought I would try the next question here first:
what software do i need to load up when I get the beast? I want to be able to do all the cool benchmark stuff as well as see how hot the thing is running etc. What would be some good software to start with when this arrives? also will i need to update or change drivers or will it come loaded with the ones i should use? -
Ok I did it.......
