Ok, I think I've decided on the Sager np8130, need some help with where to buy one and how to config it

Just to give a quick background, I wanted a 15" laptop for all around purposes. The most important criteria for me was durability, performance, and style in that order. So, I passed up some other notebooks even though they offered either better styling or performance.

    Dell XPS 15
    HP DV6tqe
    Asus g53sw

Those were basically the other three.

Anyways, looking for an unbiased opinion here. Am I making the right decision? I know the HP will offer better performance for less money. THe xps 15 seems to be the middle ground. I guess the g53 is the only one I'm considering now over the np8130.

So, what would you guys reccomend? I'm a casual gamer so decent graphics are nice, no need for top end, heat cranking visuals. I need good build quality because I simply dont trust myself haha. I need a nice screen with a nice resolution, and wanna be able to hook it up to a TV.

I guess I'm asking for the pros and cons of each but I am really leaning towards the Sager. Now I just need to find a place to buy it. Should I buy direct? Can anyone explain why I would go through a third party?

You would be better served asking this in the "What Notebook Should I Buy?" forum and reading the FAQ thread that I have put up. :)

    FAQ

Also, a bunch of reviews are up (including one by me) and there are the Owner's Lounges threads that will address most of your concerns and questions.

An HP? Offering better performance than a SAGER for *LESS* money? You must be joking.

Hi, most people purchase through a reseller, since you will get better support, pricing and free extended labor warranties. Mr Mysterious's thread ( Sager NP8130/50 FAQ) is a very nice resource for info on the P151HM1. It also includes a list of the most popular resellers. :)

Pretty sure he meant better price/performance ratio. Those HPs have been running a 33% off coupon, which is ridiculously cheap imo.

I was pretty much in the same boat as you, trying to decide between the dv6tqe and the 8130. In the end, the 8130 won out. The 560m is a good 40% better than the 6770m, so I'd say the price difference is worth it. Not to mention the build quality on HPs has been suspect the last few years and the Sager's is top notch. You definitely won't be let down by it :D

i agree the quality on HPs computers is lacking. i had one and after a week i had to send it in on warranty, and then about a month after i got it back the hinges broke, and i had always left it open, and barely ever closed it and opened it.

I wouldn't buy general brand like Sony, HP, Compaq, Gateway, Dell/Alienware, emachine (cannot stop laughing), over brand like Sager, Asus, MSI, and Toshibia.

If I want a general non gaming laptop, macbook is the safest bet, I have had mine and after 6 years it still running flawlessly.

What is lotus, just check out the website and I am guessing it is your own custom version of the Sager/Clevo NP8130 notebook? If so, are there really any differences?

Hi, aduy is one of our customers, he doesn't work for our company. :) And to answer your question, our Lotus P151HM1 uses the same Clevo chassis as the 8130, so they are essentially the same laptop with different branding. Our notebooks come with a MALIBAL nameplate on the lid, or you can also opt for no branding.

Also, other things you might want to compare are the pricing, quality assurance guarantee, and build / shipping times. For instance, we can deliver orders to California in one day via UPS ground. :)

UPS Ground delivery times aren't guaranteed, so I would still say 1-2 days. :)

Have you receives your notebook yet aduy? Please let me know how awesome the Malibal name plate look.

One day CA shipping and nameplate and good price is really pretty sweet!

I'm not sure if the 1 day CA shipping is free or not? On their website it did not list free shipping but in another thread, Malibal state that free shipping for all active forum member, so that really balance it out.

All three of these company are a big plus in my book, no sale taxes. I remember ordering parts for my gaming rig on newegg and the sale tax was 175 dollars...never ordering from them again.

haven't gotten it yet but it should be here by the latest on the 11th. ask the rep about the free shipping and the ram discount. I've seen pictures of the nameplate and they look good. they are manufactured by the same company that makes logos for Cadillac and other mainstream companies.

The Malibal nameplate is pretty sweet :D Nice silver metallic letters on a matte black background :) The code for free shipping is in Malibal's signature here on nbr. Alternatively, you could just write a note on the order with your nbr username.

Mine shipped ridiculously quick. Sent out on a Wendesday, was in town by Friday, UPs delivered on Monday.
