I've been in the market for over a month now, and I originally looked at the Asus G50VT-X2. But in the past few days I came across the NP8660 and I like what I see.

It looks like theres a $300 instant rebate right now until Tuesday (6th Jan) and I don't know if I can decide by then.

Is this rebate typically there all the time such as Dell/HP coupons, etc or does "end in Jan 6th" really mean the end of it in 2 days and I'd have to pay $300 more for a NP8660?

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards,

$300 saving   go get.
you dont often see many if any discounts and when you do you dont think twice.
this laptop has been the best laptop ive ever bought and i highly reccommend it.

which reseller is offering the discount?

SagerNoteBooks is offering the discounts...I saw PowerNoteBooks was offering similar discounts (though, not the same, which is suprising). As is XoticPC.

I'm looking at the same deal I think i'll order it tomorrow. Slight hijack but does anyone know for sure if the 8660 w/ 9800m GTS will support an external 24 inch monitor? what about 30 inch?

I emailed xoticpc about this but I guess i just want to double-check either way.

Well, I hook mine up to a 67" 1080p Samsung, so I think you'll be okay. Just make sure they have DVI or HDMI inputs.

Sager will often provide a pre-order sale on notebooks that have yet to be released and when the model ships the pre-order price is gone.

Sager has also done a "holiday" discount at least once before and when it was over, it was "over"--sort of. As I recall, the holiday sale ended and the price went back up, but that was followed shortly by a price decrease in about two weeks. The price decrease was bot as low as the holiday sale, though.

I kind of expect the $300 discount to disappear to be replaced by a $100 to $150 price drop in mid January

    However,

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

yes, the Clevo M860TU will easily support external displays with HDMI (up to 1920x1200p) or DVI (up to 2560x1600... using Dual Link DVI)

Well, looks like its time to break the piggy bank and pay a little more to get a NP8660 instead of a G50VT-X2.

I'm from the US, so I've checked out PowerNotebooks and XoticPC. There seems to be only an $8 dollar difference in my configuration after shipping and everything else is added in.

I'm pretty sure I can't go wrong with either, but I thought I read somewhere a few days ago that XoticPC has a better warranty (though they look the same to me).

    Anybody can clarify?

Both are pretty much the same in almost every aspect.... including great service/support and warranty.

And they both price match.... so you really cannot go wrong with either vendor. :)

It's a great deal on the NP8660 right now. Unfortunately, I don't have enough cash on hand. Anyone know when there will be another sale? I'm about $500 short. :(

Looks like they removed the sale and just made that the regular price now...maybe even dropped it a few dollars more...cannot recall what the price was yesterday with the "sale" price

Between the new price of the NP8660, and the crazy low price of the Gateway, I'm beginning to wonder if Nvidia has quietly lowered the price of the 9800m GTS.

I think what we are seeing is the end result of a poor holiday sale period.

Manufacturers and retailers have excess stock they expected to see but the poor economy left a lot of laptops on the shelves. They need to move this stuff before the new stuff comes along.

It's probably a combination of Nvidia, Intel Clevo, Sager, harddrive makers and ram makers (who I understand are really hurting)

Excellent, lets hope the prices of the T9800 drop to ridiculous prices. I shall surely purchase it if it does.

I have the 8660 with the 9800m GT and i use a brand new ACER 24'' 1080P monitor. It runs like a beauty :D

I have also used this laptop on my 52'' LCD TV 1080P, so im sure it would support the 30'' monitor also.
