Well at long last I've taken the plunge and ordered the following Sager 9262 from XoticPC.

SAGER NP9262 Ultimate Custom Laptop (Built on Clevo D900C / D901C)
    • 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
    • Arctic Silver: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
    • Dead Pixel Policy: Standard Dead Pixel Policy
    • Processor: ~Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
    • Video Card: nVidia Quadro FX3700M 1,024MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10
    • Ram: ~ 8,192MB DDR2 667 (2 SODIMMS) Dual Channel Memory
    • Optical Drive: Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW
    • Primary Hard Drive: ~ 500GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)
    • Secondary Hard Drive: None Standard - (Already have a 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache))
    • Third Hard Drive: None Standard - (On order another 500GB 5400RPM)
    • Operating System: None Standard
    • Warranty : Sager 3 Year Parts & Labor Warranty + 30 Day NO Dead Pixel Warranty w/ Lifetime 24/7 DOMESTIC Toll Free Customer Support

I'm looking forward to install Fedora 10 (x86-64) or CentOS 5.2 (x86-64) on this system. The primary usage of this machine will be to run multiple Virtual Machines to validate Client configurations.

    Some choices:
    • While I would have loved to get the Intel Q9650 (@3Ghz), this would not really make a huge difference for my system. I need mostly the 8GB of RAM and the multiple disks to spread the I/Os.
    • I also wanted the ability to run some specific CUDA optimzed programs for security testing and pattern testing, so the nvidia Quadro FX3700M made more sense for me with it's 128 CUDA Stream processors. Having a SLI 9800M GTX might give a higher total number of CUDA Stream processors (2x112=224), but the $485 difference was too much for me.

Can't wait to start configuring this mobile workstation during the Xmas period.
    Erik

I also took that Sager 3 Year Parts & labor Warranty, as it's price has dramatically decrease since my last Sager 9262 assessments with XoticPC a few months ago.

    nice.

also I recommend to consider some extra insurance on that beast.... for accidents.

If you have home owners insurance, make sure to list your notebook as one of those possessions and it will be covered for accidents or theft.

If you do not have home insurance, check out:

They are extremely legitimate and have been around for a while now. :)
