Whom would you recommend for a gaming laptop with the ability to customize? I was thinking Sager as I don't like the look of alienware...at all. I hate it.

I tried emailing powernotebook about their military discounts, and although they say 1 business day reply, it's been a week and two emails I've sent asking for information with nothing back. So I've moved on from them. It isn't a good start in my eyes :)

Suggestions? Maybe someone that might offer a military discount?

Yeah I've seen his name pop up.

So what's the better value. An 8850 or the cheaper G73? =)

The GTX480M is a better card than the 5870, but the reason that systems built on the W880CU are so much more expensive is because the system is BRAND NEW, so much so that as a notebook manufacturer it actually costs more for me to buy that barebone to build on than the D900F barebone. I'd say to look at a Clevo model that also supports the 5870 for a better comparison.

Do not waste money on the gtx 480m...
It consumes much more power, is way hotter and way too expensive considering tha 5870 has the same performance at everything except heavy tesselation, where even the 480m cannot provide a playable fps, so its only a bragging right in the end.

But i do reccommend getting a Clevo (Sager). Best laptop ive had so far was a Clevo D900F.
Or if you want something silent and still powerful, a G73JH.
And two good stores would be GentechPC (best service so far, Ken will do ANYTHING you will ask - even flash a custom vBios for you) or XoticPC.

I can vouch from personal experience that Joseph L. from Xoticpc.com was a very pleasant and helpful salesperson to deal with.

He was very helpful during the actual transaction, and even months and months after I had bought the notebook, he still replies emails very promptly.

yeah, i've since stopped considering due to mostly it's prohibitive price, well it's not exactly prohibitive, but bang for your buck.

I'm probably going to go with the 8760 vice the G73 as it looks like the G73 suffers from a lot quality control issues not to mention i'm not really like the design of the case itself.

I always get worried though when I see out of date information on company's websites or cookie cutter responses to questions....that don't answer the questions asked. =(

xoticpc still has a May discount prominently displayed on pages..it's almost July. Heck, maybe they're just preparing for NEXT May lol...

i got mine from xoticpc too.
    very friendly and honest.
although the promo thingy is outdated, their products and inventory are most definitely up to date.
also the new 8760 ( i forget the name) that is able to handle the 480m is coming out soon. you may want to wait for that if the 480m interests you.
edit: i think its the 880cu
personally however id go with a 5870 and the 8690(smaller)

Thanks for all of the recommendations! There was mention that we still had an advertisement for a May promotion on our website. What model is this advertised on?

Don't remember and I don't have the bandwidth access to try and find it again haha. It already takes 10min per webpage :)

I mean, it's obviously there somewhere as I'd never gone to the xoticpc website until this month, and only somewhat recently since it was being recommended on this site.

I have to give my recommendation to Xotic as well! I bought my sager recently through them, happy as a clam with the product, and their live chat is extremely handy. A+ to them, they frequently answer questions AFTER their posted hours of operation too, really, can't speak highly enough about the service I got from them.

I recommend GenTech as well. Bought my Sager NP8760 from them in March and was thoroughly impressed with their professionalism and responsiveness, and the laptop has performed flawlessly. Ken Lee is the man to deal with. I don't know whether GenTech offers military discounts, but they are happy to answer any questions you have.

I looked at GenTech, but they're not offering the 8760 anymore it seems, at least it's not on their site that I can find.

I'll be going through xoticpc it looks like as there seems to be an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and it looks like I can do the 2% check discount in combination with a military discount. No matter how you save money...your saving money ;)
