My NP9150 has stopped giving me 40-60fps on games like BF3 and Crysis. It's almost as though I have Vsync turned on (which I don't) and it just stops at 31 fps. For example, in BF3, I can put all the settings on low, and get 31 fps. When I turn the settings to ultra, I get the same exact 31fps. It's like this on every game I have tested so far. I made sure in the Nvidia control panel that Vsync was turned off, and BF3 and Crysis were both set to use the Nvidia GPU, not the Intel one. I also tried updating from the 310.96 drivers to the 316.96 beta drivers, and I'm still receiving the same issue. The last thing I tried was switching from MSI Afterburner to Fraps to see if maybe it was a bug with Afterburner's framerate counter, but no luck. If anyone has any idea what the heck is going on here...it'd be greatly appreciated, thanks.![]()

hmmm.... have u tried checking the fps with a game that sports a built-in feature for that, as opposed to an external tool like the afore-mentioned afterburner and fraps? could be that theyre set to record with 31-something fps
-
I'll try finding a game that has a built in one...I have no idea of any that do -
what exactly happened before it started showing u that 31 fps limit? try to recall anything u might have changed in ur config... driver updates, driver panel settings, game settings, hardware changes, anything at all.
-
I found out that BF3 actually has a FPS checker built into it...and sure enough, 31fps at all graphics settings...should I just install all Nvidia drivers?
-
do u mean install or uninstall?
but sure, u could just try and get rid of all nvidia driver packages first, run a driver sweeper and then install the latest beta. see if that helps any -
Sorry, I meant uninstall...I'll delete them now.
-
I uninstalled the drivers, ran driver sweeper, installed the latest Beta drivers, and still no luck man...this is seriously frusturating!
-
Also make sure you are not using double vsync due to a weird bug. Set it to normal Vsync in NVCP to see if anything changes.
Having the same FPS on different graphics settings indicate a CPU problem... make sure your processor is performing properly and not heating up. Oh and make sure you don't have "gametime.maxvariablefps 31" written in your user.cfg or ingame console -
hmm.... check and see if u still have a recent system restore point which predated the 31fps issue? maybe u can revert back to that and see if it works then. be aware that any changes u made since that restore point will be reverted!
-
Ok, how can I do that?
-
Just open the console with the button left of 1 and type "Render.Drawfps 1" You could also try deleting the configs of the game if nothing helps. -
I restored to a restore point from 2 days ago, when I know the issue wasn't occuring, and I'm still getting 30 FPS on all games, at any settings...
-
Install the latest HD 4000 drivers, then fresh install the 313.96 nvidia drivers. It makes no sense that you get the same FPS in different games even if your CPU was damaged, so it must be a driver problem. -
Edit: I just tried benchmarking Just Cause 2, and with all settings maxed, my average FPS was 27. I benchmarked again with lowest settings, and my average FPS was 31.
DOUBLE EDIT: Oh lord...I have it set to power saver in the Sager Hotkeys app...I changed it to performance, and sure enough, back to normal. I really do not remember ever changing it from performance, in fact, I always remember having it set to power saver...either way, I'm just glad it's fixed and I can enjoy this monster GPU once again. Thank you all for the help. -
Hahaha don't feel too bad Meinkraft
Last weekend I had been gaming all day and turned off the trackpad. Went out to dinner with some friends, came back and started going nuts as I couldn't get my touchpad to work.
Better than having a real problem though eh? -
oh cmon, uve gotta be kidding!!! lol
here we were getting our asses handed to us by this issue and u just forgot to switch to perf. mode in the hotkey tool? oh boy... :rolleyes2:
anyways! enjoy ur machine -
-
lol, no worries
its all good
-
We've ALL done this or something similar, especially disabling the trackpad, and then going nuts with drivers, uninstalling, re-installing, registry edits. Only to realize that I'm the dumbest person on the planet.
Actually, a few months ago I was trying to figure out why machine would crash and stop working. I later found on that after I put my GPU back into the case that I forgot to reconnect the fan power connector. D'OH! -
ha nice! that exact thing has happened to me as well, luckily i noticed it before my machine started crashing

I managed to do this once for about a minute too
Wondered if I was running off battery when CS:GO was very slow but I was in battery saving mode ^-^
Only 31 FPS with 680M?
