Looking for some opinions, in a nutshell I've set a spending limit on a 8150 model and i've come to a point to make a tough decision.

I can get a 6970m, upgraded 95% gamut screen screen, wireless card for about the same as a base model with a 6990m. I'm leaning towards the 6990m since I could upgrade the panel & wireless card myself later. I'm also putting on my own IC7.

    Any thoughts?

Honestly I think you should go for a 6990m since you outlined it yourself, the screen and the wireless card is user upgradable later, but being able to play a game or not in your satisfaction in the x future is crucial to your next upgrading cycle....

I'd get the 6970. Installing a screen yourself can be a pain in the . The difference in the performance of the two video cards won't be much, but you'll definitely see a difference with the screen and/or the wireless card.

I can't really agree with you alex, the 6970 vs 6990 difference in terms of performance is still there, however I don't even think upgrading the wireless card is necessary in 70% of the case, in addition, there are many guides on how to upgrade the screen by yourself, it's certainly less of a pain than upgrading a mxm video card.

Get the screen, get the cards later.

MXM video cards can be had easily later on if you ask the resellers here, and for me I upgraded from the 460m to the 6970m by buying a 6970m upgrade kit from my reseller, and then selling the 460m.

I spent less than I would have spent for the upgrade, as on eBay, mxm cards are quite expensive.

It all comes down to what your laptop usage is, the 6970m is plenty fast as it is..

I do agree there, it is easier to upgrade the screen than the video card (usually). I just don't see too much of a jump in performance to warrant the upgrade. Meanwhile, the wireless upgrade will probably help, assuming you make use of wireless.

On that note, has anyone found a reputable seller for the AUO B156HW01 V.4? Or would one of the nice sager resellers be able to do that?
