Just wondering. Any kind of optical bay HDD caddy should work with the np5160 right? The one offered at XOticPC is freaking $40 and I would rather ebay one for half the price...

Also, anyone one have good recommendations for a cheap notebook cooler? I'm working on budget here :D

We use the one from Newmodeus that is the one you want to go with. Unfortunately the caddies are not cheap.

I brought a cheap one from ebay for 12 dollars. It wasn't a perfect fit but i was able to get it to work by changing the brackets. I also had remove my old DVD face and install on the ODD but that didnt fit too. So I super glue the face on. Everything looks neat but I spend like 1 hour working on it.

So 40 dollars from what I hear would get your a perfect fit and maybe no super gluing. But for 40 dollars do you still get to kept your DVD drive or it gets replace with ODD?

What I recommend for average person is to buy the 40 dollars one. But if you good at modify stuff then go for the 12 dollar one.

For $40 from XoticPC/NewModeUS, you can keep your drive aswell.

Personally, I'd highly recommend a good quality caddy over the Asian knockoff alternative. (Note that most on eBay ship from Hong Kong).

Having just bought one from NewModeUS myself, I'd highly recommend it for the sturdy build quality, and good look. And if that's what XoticPC is selling, then I say go for it. Cost me $42+shipping.

Arent they all made in asian? The one on ebay isnt a knock off its a universal one its pretty solid quality and it looks good too. The only thing is the bracket did not align as smoothly.

If it is solid quality, then you got lucky. I was reading about some mishaps with those eBay caddies a while ago. Ones that bend, the SATA to SATA doesn't work, 9mm caddies won't fit in 9mm slots... Etc.

I don't think it was luck because the person I brought it from had 100% feedback and tons of good comments.

I wish I had better luck with my sager. It has stuck pixels on my LCD....

i bought my first caddy off ebay and it was faulty. it came in the flimsiest of packaging. i returned it and got a refund.
i didnt want to got thru the same hassle so i contacted a local computer accessories store and got in touch with the owner. he ordered an assortment of sizes and i ordered my next caddy from him.
so ordering from ebay can be a hassle as it normally is but again its usually half the cost of the newmodeus models. the local accessories store however sold it for even cheaper and he gives a warranty to the item.
maybe you can do the same and ask a local retailer to order for you.
