I really don't know who this guy is or if I'm supposed to link websites on this forum (sorry if I'm not, but you guys can delete it if it needs to be, lol) but he has some useful tips for optimizing your system/removing unnecessary background "noise" on your computer. It's pretty cool, he has guides for vista/xp and goes through: "safe," "tweaked," and "barebones" (aka "pro") configurations. If you don't really feel comfortable doing what he recommends, just do the "safe" configuration and you should notice some increase in performance without risking any weird stuff going on later. I used "tweaked" settings and I noticed an overall increase in responsiveness and speed.

So good luck!

Yea. He's and his guides have been around for ages. Some decent info there.

Here is also a lot of info about that subject.
On page 13 there are also a few useful links.
http://www.tweakvista.com/ and http://thevistaforums.com where very useful to me cause it goes really in depth about the tweaks and tips.
Some tweaks are linked to a discussion forum where you can learn more about them.
