Well I just got my WSXGA NP2090 up and running today (XP Pro) and I ran 3DMark06 and got a 3050. Mine is T7300, 100gb 7200rpm, 2GB ram (1 stick).

I'm not dissapointed, I just have a few questions:

    1) For the CPU tests, is it normal to get a constant 0~1 FPS? It was painful to sit through.

    2) How do people get their 3DMark06's to like 3400? What can I do to improve my performance?

    3) Is the "Dual Core" aspect of the processor enabled automatically?

    1. In 3DMark06? Yes it is.

    2. What video card do you have?

    3. Not for XP x32, please see this thread.

remember to go to Nvidia Control Panel (in Display Properties/ Control Panel)
    - go to PowerMizer
    - set it to Max Performance.

    I've got the NP2090 so 8600M GT 512MB DDR2.

I also don't know which drivers to use... I've tried a lot of the ones people recommend (such as 162.18) but I get HORRIBLE FPS in 3DMark06. My best experience was with the ones of the Sager website.

There's more to life than 3dM'06. You're not SUPPOSED to get high FPS in it. Its supposed to rape your system in every orifice it has. So, in short, play a game and see if you notice a difference.
165.01's are supposed to be good.
    Find them at laptopvideo2go.com

Try the 163.16 ones from laptopvideo2go they have been reported to work well with the 8600M GT.

I know, but I was dropping from 15 FPS to 5, seemed pretty drastic to me.

Is there anything wrong with the ones off the Sager site? Are the others that much better?

Just got 3180 by doing the PowerMizer thing, unlocking my 2nd Core, and usin 165.01's.

    Question:

    1) In CPU-Z it says "Cores - 2" "Threads - 2". Does that mean both my cores are in use, or just that I HAVE them? My CPU performance charts in Task manager is split in 2 (for each core).

So did my unlocking the other core work? I don't see a noticeable difference in performance...

you will not see and difference in performance with normal day to day usage.

you will only notice if you do benchmarks that tax the CPU (like wPrime)... or
    - while gaming
    - doing heavy conversion (audio or video)

Thats weird. Check your video drivers, or re-install DirectX. I had solid gameplay with my Sager 2090 in WoW (all the settings maxed out).

Make sure that your BOOT.INI does NOT have the /usepmtimer in it

I thought having /usepmtimer was supposed to enhance Core 2 experience.

Have you read my Windows XP Mult Core thread?

I have noted that certain games (like WoW) does not function well with that add-on in the BOOT.INI

So I recommend to remove that if there are any issues that arise from it.

Drivers are 163.16's I believe, PowerMizer is OFF, dxdiag says everything is okay (not sure if that matters).

And I didn't do the boot.ini step because I read that you had mentioned it could cause instability.

And by the way, when I say choppy, it's very playable, it's just not seamless (like people had described it might be).

Do you have the WSXGA also? Because I'm sure mine would play fine at WXGA resolution.

I got a score of 3290 for the specs below. All drivers were from the Sagernotebooks.com website. Check to see if you have the other core up and running with the sticked thread in this forum. I think or XP you might have to configure it. Im using Vista so Im pretty positive it's on by default. The CPU test portion of the benchmark is suppose to be real processor intensive. I got only a few fps at most, mainly 1fps though.

Anyone know what the max 3DMark06 score is for a spec maxed out NP2090?

that score seems fine... if you want a better score you will need to do some optimizing:
    - disable resource hogs (System Restore, drive indexing, anti-virus)
    - switch visuals to Classic Mode
    etc....

I still don't get why he got 3290 with Vista and 1GB Ram and Sager drivers, while I don't get over 3200 with XP, 2GB Ram, and laptopdriver2go drivers (which are supposedly better).

I had nothing running in the background when I did it, I hadn't even loaded my antivirus yet.

    Something seems wrong...
