ive heard mixed reviews about the Optimus technology. Is it buggy at all? how well does it turn on and off automatically? is there an easy way to turn it on or off manually?

Optimus can be buggy as it relies on drivers to switch between integrated and discrete graphics. That means that really new and really old games are at the mercy of the drivers. Most of the time this isn't a huge issue. Another point would be that Optimus limits the discrete GPU by a few percent due to the software layer in between.

It does turn on and off automatically after you set up profiles for each game/application in the drivers so that you won't have to bother with it after that. There is a hotkey to turn the discrete card on/off manually on many models as well.

I just got my NP5165 last week and its been really great so far. Besides the manual VGA switch on the laptop, you can as the Malibal rep suggested set it up via application profiles within NV Control panel.

I'm using the current latest Nvidia beta drivers (290.36) and the lastest Intel GMA video drivers ( 15.22.52.2559) and I've had zero problems so far. I'm averaging 32-34fps on SWTOR with Medium settings and smooth gameplay on BF3 running low.

My longest battery time so far was with UMA mode, medium brightness surfing the web, and watching some video lasted me about 3.5hours before having to plug in. It could probably go to 4hours if I lowered the screen brightness.

    I definitely recommend the laptop.
