Hi. I'm getting ready to order an NP8170 tomorrow or Wednesday. My question is, is there a benefit in ordering from one of the resellers (xoticpc, gentech, etc) as opposed to ordering directly from Sager? Is it true that they (resellers) just act as a middleman and the laptops are ordered from Sager? It just seems that if I order direct from Sager, I might get it to my door sooner. I'm just wondering what the best thing to do is. Thanks for any advice you can give. :)

Yes. Better customer service and offers if you go through a reseller.

I personally went through Xotic and they are fantastic to work with. Pretty good pricing too.

Sager has awful customer service if you just buy through them, so that's why you need the reseller. It'll get to you just as fast and will be the same price (if not cheaper).

I also went with XoticPC, but you'd be just as well off going with Malibal, Power-notebooks, etc.

The general consensus is to go through a reseller, since you will get better customer service, extended labor warranties and sometimes better deals. :)

Your order would ship out just as quick with a reseller. As many have said you get additional services with a reseller such as additional Labor Warranties and Warranty services some additional support options.

    cool!
i didn't mean to imply that going through a re-seller is bad or anything, i almost went with XoticPC and they were very helpful answering my questions, but then I came across sager website and saw they offer the same hardware at the same price so I just went with them. I paid extra for rush build and over night delivery and had my laptop in under a week :)

I went with Xoticpc myself due to better price and tax reason and appreciate their great service. However, some assumed they get better customer service through reseller than Sager is WRONG!

You only deal with reseller during ordering stage. All customer service will be forward to Sager after the initial 30 days. Your manufacture warranty is handled by Sager not reseller. If Sager ruled that your defect is not covered under their warranty policy, reseller can't help you.

Yes, some reseller offer extend labor warranty. But in my opinion, there is nothing that a reseller can fix that a person with some common sense can't.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this. My notebook was just RMA'd due to a faulty gpu. Sager was claiming that the heatsink, and therefore the card itself, had been damaged due to user error on my part. However, the folks at LPC Digital (thanks again Larry :D ) straightened everything out for me. My notebook has been RMA'd twice and I've never spoken with Sager about anything. Now had I ordered through Sager directly, it is possible that I could have worked things out myself and persuaded them to do the repairs, but it probably would have been much more difficult. I believe resellers have more clout, so to speak, in these types of situations to get things done.

I will not speak for every other retailer but we at reflexnotebook.com can handle any issue with the Sager notebook except MAJOR motherboard issues (in that case we send it back to Sager for repair).

    Hope that clears it up.
