    Hi,

I've recently ordered a 8150-S1 with a matte screen. However, after hearing about how much richer the colours will be on a glossy screen, I am begaining to regret my decision.

So, this may be a dumb question, and if it is, i aplogise in advance, but if I were to put a glossy screen protector over the matte screen when it comes, will it enhance the colours and give be the benefits (and the cons i guess) of a glossy screen (blacker blacks, richer colours...)?

If yes, what glossy screen protector do you recommend for the 15.4" 8150-S1 screen?

If the matte screen is anything like the one on the 8170 you wont be disappointed. Its one of the best I've seen (and I've owned a lot of laptops)

I know this doesnt really answer your question, but wait until it arrives before passing judgement :)

There is a reason you paid extra for Matte. It works in harsh conditions and the screen is amazing.

This, Where I'd be using my laptop the conditions aren't perfect so a matte screen will be great for me.

Calibrate your screen before rendering judgment. Vew few laptops have properly calibratedd screens from the factory.

Also, you might want to check the hardware ID for the monitor, to see what version you have. Maybe you got a V.0 instead of one of the newer ones.

TBH if you've purchased the 95% gamut then it would definitely look just as or if not better then the glossy screens out there. I put the same model 8150-S1 up besides a Macbook pro 15" and I love the matte over the glossy. That says a lot esp. because apples notebook screens are so highly rated.

One thing I haven't heard anyone mention about matt screens is are they resistant to scratches over time?

I'm not sure whether the material of matt screens have changed, but the one thing I've noticed on an old Dell laptop of my girlfriend's, is the matt has lots of highly visible scratches on it. The scratches are barely visible when the laptop has booted, but it is when off or on dark backgrounds. Her laptop is about 6 years old though.

My glossy screen doesn't have a single scratch on it after 3.5 years (it's very resistant), but yes glare in direct sunlight is annoying, but I don't tend to have it in direct sunlight.

On glossy screens (atleast with the notebooks I've owned... 3 macbooks and a hp notebook) I can tell you that with the matte screen I've gotten I don't see any fingerprints (which annoy the hell outta me), or scratches. Even if I held the notebook close to the light, (with glossy screens if the light directly bounces off of it when off you see every single scratch) the scratches aren't visible, at least to my eyes that is.

That's interesting that you've had the opposite experience to me. I have no scratches on my glossy at all, but my girlfriend's matt screen is pretty bad. I never really thought about it much until now because it just made sense that a screen with a much more slippery and smoother surface would scratch less than a rougher one. Maybe it has to do with the LCD brand?

I'd be interested in other people's experiences with matt and glossy screens over a long time, related to scratches etc.

They both have weak soft plastic, they both scratch just as easily.

More or less this could be just true and the matte just doesn't show it well because it doesn't reflect as well as the glossy screens.

The OP is believing a lie. The thought that Glossy screens show colors better is a complete myth.

    Lol yes or no.

It's impossible to comment on the quality unless we know which model of matte panel u got.

Adding a glossy film will not increase gamut but may enhance the contrast a bit. However, u may also lose <3% brightness.

Glossy surface usually has a little higher contrast & brightness than matte assuming same panel was used. But that is under total darkness.

TBH it really depends on the user if they want to get glossy or matte. It really depends on your profession or if your using the notebook to get entertainment. For ex. within film and photography, you might want to get a matte screen simply because you know that what you see on the screen is what you would get.

Just curious, how do you people get fingerprints on your screens if they aren't touchscreens..? I see people ing about getting fingerprints on their screens but I don't understand. What are you doing touching the screen in the first place?

Okay, so if you ordered from Mucro, then you are talking about the optional matte screen that sager offers. Not the 95% gamut AUO B156HW01 V4 that US resellers are offering separately.

I got the laptop on May 6th, with the LG matte lcd panel. I found it to have uneven lighting and a weird defect. Along with that, I also had some audio issues (which i have talked about in the thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/577492-subwoofer-p150hm-not-working.html) So my laptop is RMAing.. totally frustrated. I have to wait 20-30 days for its return to finish crysis 2 and deadspace 2. :(

But if it wasn't for those minor screen defects, my panel is excellent, IMO. edit: But not better than the Hp dv series' panel which i previously owned.

The matte screen on my n8130 is excellent. I came from a lower resolution, glossy screen that was not as bright, so there really is no comparison. This screen is beautiful and bright. You may have remorse, but it won't be because of the screen no matter which one you pick.

The colours may appear more vibrant on a glossy screen. However, there is no difference in colour reproduction between matte and glossy screens of the same gamut.

Matte is definitely the more versatile option, especially if you are planning to use your notebook in a variety of lighting conditions. Otherwise, if it is just going to stay in the same spot, with no direct lighting issues, then glossy will do fine.

You can go to a regular brick and mortar store to take a look at external monitors, most of which are matte. Many TVs are as well. It is advisable that one knows the difference between matte and glossy prior to making the switch. Negative misconceptions about matte screens are usually the result of misleading marketing of glossy screens, or user inexperience.

Too much or too little light can be bad for your eyes, all depends on the environment.

Though as always the big argument for Matte is that instead of having all the light in the room/sun reflecting back into your eyes the matte doesn't reflect light as much so you don't get as much glare which can definitely affect your computer usage.

As far as scratches go I tend to believe that matte is a little bit better when it comes to scratches because the surface doesn't reflect as much light so light doesn't bounce off it showing all the uneven surfaces as much. I've had a pen tip scratch all over a matte screen and you don't even notice it at all when the screen is on.

I wonder, why the rest of the resellers in US offer 95% Gamut screens only for +95$ after twice as much a few moths ago? i've herad those AOU v4 vhave been discontinued and a few reseller offer it on ebay for at least 119$ a piece...

Do u know if they still use the exact same screen?

Because before we had to have the unit shipped to the resellers location and then we woud need to install the screen and test it.
Then we would have to ship it to the customer. Now Sager does it all before it leaves the factory and can ship it direct to the customer.

    This saves money.

Yes the screens that are usually used are the V4 for matte and the V7 for glossy. At least that is what we have used of late... :)

Thanks... Now i get it! But what aboun the screens to be discontinued by AUO, they would run out in a near future, i predict. Any comments by Sager about it, replacements to v4 coming?

Anyone have a decent color profile for this screen?

I'd be willing to try it.
