Ordered the NP5796 on 9/30, the $500 sale of 5793 came up the same day...

I just checked with XoticPC now it is $600 off instead of the $500 for the 5793! I am wondering If I could tell them to switch as the payment is still pending...but the difference between the ram (667MHz VS 1033MHz), the GPU (9800m GT vs GTS), and the absence of HDMI port on 5793 really bug me. I paid $2110 for ordering the 5796, and $15xx is really a big difference and it is too hard to pass...

For those who used/have both laptop, what do you think about the 5796 and is there lots of improvement over the 5793? Thanks.

Yes, you should contact them as soon as possible to get them to refund the difference and change it (they will). The 600 dollar discount + blu-ray drive is a great deal. I would definitely say it's worth taking the discounted price. The performance increase you get is not worth 600, I would say a few hundred at best.

Couldn't leave you wondering all night!

Hah, you're welcome. The blu-ray drive on top of the 600 dollars off.. It's just such a nice deal for a minimal performance trade.

One more question, how big of a performance hit will it be going down from DDR1033 to DDR667? Or not noticeable at all? (hope that's the answer, lol) Thanks again :p

Am I the first person on this forum to order the upgraded 5793? If so, I feel special.

edit: from what I've read the differences between ddr2 and ddr3 are barely noticeable.

difference of 5793 and 5796 on performance wise <1%
only idiots would pass that kind of a deal.

You really shouldn't notice it in gaming, which I'm assuming will be your main use. You can't really notice a difference in the speed of ram IMO unless you have the two machines side by side using ram intensive programs. Even if, it will be negligible.

SplinteredVision, actually I had a 7811fx before and I exchanged it twice but all of them had terrible temperature issue (GPU going over 95C and HD going over 68C), that's why I opt for the NP5796 with its better build quality. Now with this $600 off deal it is just hard not to get the 5793 instead (I like how 5796 and 5793 having the same form factor so that I can upgrade with graphic cards made for 5796). Let's hope the 9800gts in it doesn't heat up like those in 7811fx. :D

Haha yea, I actually posted a thread about the NP5793 in the Gateway forum because I was just about to buy a 7811 the other day. I basically said it would be insane to choose the P-7811 over the 5793...with the warranty the P-7811 is actually MORE expensive!

Actually I was kinda disappointed about the quality of those Gateways. I mean none of my P7811fx would lock up or anything, but the temp was way too high that made me doubt about its longevity. Now with this 5793 sale finally there's something else for people to choose from other than the 7811fx.

the 5793 will take the 9800GT, but the 5796 is capable of taking the 9800 GTX.
The 9800 GTX has a higher TDP than the 8800 GTX, but I'm not sure if the older heatsink or the BIOS will support it.

Man, than thing starts under $1400 with the cash rebate?! What a deal. I'd buy an X9000ES and still be under the price of the 5796.

Oh well, that's the game we play. It's not enough to make me regret my purchase.

you have no idea what you talking about. heatsink is always come with graphic card as a whole package. which mean when you purchase a GTX from xoticPC you are also receiving a new heat sink.

Yes heatsink usually comes with the graphic card as one piece, at least that's what happened when I upgraded my radeon 9700 to 9800 on my dell 9100...

If the "new" graphics card's heatsink FIT into the older heatsink's groove with the screws and cover, and have the same fan, then well and good. Let BIOS have its turn.

The second comment was not clear i guess .. what it meant was:

The graphics cards of sager 5793 have a different heatsink than that of say .. an alienware m15x.

Don't you have better excuses other than "was not clear i guess" and the "m15x"? and how does m15x related to this topic while AW ain't even offering 9800M GTX? come on be creative.

I still don't know how you are getting it differently.

i.e- The sager 5793 and the Alienware m15x have different heatsink designs .... if they are being loaded with the SAME graphics card.

let me rephrase it in a simple way. why did you bring up other models/m15x (which is pointless) while we are talking about 5793/6 (which have identical heatsinks if you read the service manual)?

the RAM speed shouldnt reaally matter. As long as you have 4Gb and arent looking for some extreme overclocking, youll be fine with 667

What was the comment perspective by the way ?

It was emphasizing the fact that the card heatsinks would be tailored specifically for the model the notebook manufacturer. I don't know how you didn't get that.

If the 5796 and 5793 have identical heatsinks, that's good. 9800GTX anyone ?

I don't get how are you not getting that, 9800M GT/GTX share the same heatsink. The end. Is it too hard for you to understanding? You kept bringing up "different laptops have different heatsink", well thank you for telling us the public secret but this is what the OP asking about.

at the price this is at i dont think they will be around for 2 months lol.. maybe a few weeks before they fully run out of stock im sure they are simply clearing out the leftovers
