Whoa I configured a quick 8150 that I was planning to get from Xotic or Malibal and it came out $500 more ...

That sucks, the x7200 I configured came out $100 cheaper with Origin, including two more expensive hard drives XoticPC doesn't even carry. Maybe it only seems good if you're getting the high end machine?

Keep in mind this isn't considering them price matching, their lifetime support, or included 45 day no dead pixel warranty. I'm not trying to "Sell" this company, it just seems cool and actually cheaper with the model I'm looking at.

Just purchased an Origin EON 17-s and I have to say the level of support, build quality... EVERYTHING... has been top notch!

I've had three Alienware systems and a Dell Precision... All had major issues.

These folks have been fantastic to work with and go out of their way to make sure your completely happy. Not too many companies these days seem to care... these guys do.

I would highly recommend them. This is the first laptop purchase I've made that I can honestly say I'm totally enjoying :)

I just configured the equivolent systems on Origin of the 8150 and the price came out to $3,772 for Origin and $3,753 for Xoticpc. Origin on the other hand advertises better support services than Xotic. Where are you getting a $500 difference?

What exactly is better about their warranty? They only offer this stock:

"1 Year Part Replacement and 45 Day Free Shipping Warranty with DVD image and Lifetime Support "

That's actually worse than the stock warranty on my Malibal machine:

"3 Year Ltd. Labor and 1 Year Parts Warranty with 24/7 USA-Based Support

Includes FREE Shipping Both Ways And FREE Labor On All Upgrades"

And considering for $79, I added a second year to parts from Malibal- where $70 only gets you an extension on the 45 day free shipping from Origin.

It seems to be a worse warranty for the money. And when I contacted Malibal chat support- they were awesome too. So take that for what it's worth.

And that 45 day no dead pixel warranty? Most resellers like Xotic and Malibal give you a 40 day money-back-guarantee anyway. I'd imagine you could decide whether you had a dead pixel in 30 days or 45....

I just spec'd out an 8150 with the config I ordered, minus the SSD and with only 4GB of RAM (I added those myself). Came out to $2,036 on Malibal and 2,373 on Origin- with a worse warranty and with Windows added on Malibal (though I didn't order it with that- Origin only lets you get it with Windows I guess).

Last I checked Xotic was pretty similar in prices.

What did you do to get an 8150 to $3800? Did you just tick the highest box on every option? You need to make sure the parts on offer are similar- but still you're in x7200 range for that.

It looks to me like Origin sells machines stripped mostly bare, so that you're paying a ton to get upgrades. (2GB RAM stock? an i5 instead of an i7? weird)

It looks like I was speccing a high end notebook (Not with the highest settings checked, mostly mid range except for the video card) and you're speccing a low end version of the same system. It seems Origin had better initial pricing for the higher end components than xotic pc. I did not compare to Myth unfortunately, so it seems like they may be a better choice. I emailed Myth some questions I had and also asked them if I could include the new Crucial and Intel SSD's, which they currently don't show on their website.

It seems I should perhaps no longer consider Origin, however, as a viable source for my x7200. Origin's tech support was friendly and quickly responsive via their online chat but in response to questions I sent them over email, they stated the P170HM is was new version of the x7200, false, they aren't aware of losing TRIM when raiding SSD's, and they aren't aware of the need for dual Power adapters and the converter for machines running at full performance with i7 990x and sli 485's. It is troubling that a company advertising themselves as the highest end boutique shop doesn't know very much about their own product.

Now I'm just waiting for Xotic and Myth's response to my questions. AVA's reported requirement of western union pay and customer's management of Fedex, along with other poor reviews, has nixed them from the list so far.

Thanks for your time in replying to this thread! If you found I was incorrect in anything I've written above though, please let me know.

To be fair though, TRIM support on RAID isn't impossible- it just hasn't been worked out yet. The problem (for those that don't know) is that TRIM is essentially garbage collection - it finds areas that are empty and wipes them to reduce performance hits on the SSD. It basically cleans out the flash at those spots saving time when doing writes in the future.

RAID on the other hand remaps a lot of sectors and is constantly moving files around. This means that TRIM could potentially wipe areas that were in use, or not wipe areas that were needed - so it's disabled by default.

It's entirely within the realm of possibility that once they figure out how to do it, a simple chipset driver update may get it working (though this may or may not happen, and it could be specific to certain models).

Except that most resellers offer this standard anyway, and Origin only offers a limited warranty versus the standard 3 year labor/1 year parts/ 30 day money back that all the others have.

It seems strange that so many new accounts have been commenting on origin PC lately when before it was an unknown quantity...
