What is the average overclock for the NP5165 555m. I know it has the 128-bit GDDR3 version, but wondering how it compares with 6770m and 555m in the Alienware M14x?

Thanks Flapo. Just curious if there's any success stories with overclocking the 555m in the Sager NP5165.

Also, anyone game on the NP5165 on battery, how are the GPU clocks affected?

sorry bout the electronics joke, but ive heard the m14x gets hot, so you could do some overclocking, but i think it might be pushing it.

No problem aduy. It seems there is success with the M14x and XPS 17 with 555m overclocking to near GTX 460 speeds and temps remaining < 85C, so I'm hoping same but that's why I'm asking.

Also still would like to know how it performs on battery.

Well, from personal experience from various of the new sandy bridges with gtx460m, most of their bateries whr output and voltage are UNABLE to power the gtx460m at full clocks. this i believe is an electrical restriction rather than just a preprogrammed protocol that can be overwritten.

Note: This has been experienced in asus and alienware laptops. i have NOT yet tried any sager of any kind on battery alone. Also the electrical limitation of the battery alone was given to me by a college student who took a QUICK VIEW at the battery specifications without actually take time to fully analize this behavior.

Bottomline it is very likely the 14 and 15 inch computers with 500m and 400m series graphics to DOWNCLOCK on battery alone, but as i repeat, its from personal experience with 2 brands not including sager.

I know the 8130/8150/8170 downclock on battery. I've tried it on my NP8170, 3DMark06 ~ 3500, same thing for 8130. But my point is that M14x lasts about two hours gaming on battery and can maintain stock speeds at least. I do not know if the 5165 can do the same, because I have not received feedback on it. I would like to know. A 3DMark06 run would help at least gauge it. I'm looking for similar performance to my M11x on battery is all, which scores about 7500 3DMark06. But would also like to know 3DMark 11 and Vantage scores for a stock 5165.

actually the alienware m14x downclocks its speed after the bios update that fixed several issues i believe.
