Sorry if this is a duplicate post... I've been contemplating overclocking my sli'd 9800m's. To be honest, I'm a little apprehensive(for obvious reasons). I want to approach this slowly, one step at a time. Is there any advice on which OC software is most preferred by 9262 owners? There doesn't seem to be too much to nvidia's "system tools", and RivaTuner seems overwhelming. Thx.

you can only down clock via software. you would have to flash the vbios to over clock.

Pardon? I wish to overclock, not downclock. What do you mean by flashing the vbios??? What are the clock and shader overclock sliders for in NST and RivaTuner?

i take it you haven't try to move them and see what happens? that goes for rivatuner and system tools....

and vbios is the only way your going to over clock the 9800m series.

a few good reasons come to mind alfonz...
1: 2 to 100 fps can make the difference between getting killed (online play) or better than smooth game play.
2: over clocking a computer is like nos to speed addict. (more speed)
3: something to do over the norm.
4: getting that extra performance out of your 1500 dollar purchase to match a 3000 dollar machine (this is a very big one here)
5: it's exciting to most just to know that they can up the normal performance without having to go buy more parts...them selves....

    just a few examples... :)

I think a sticky needs to be written with a detailed report on how to flash the vBIOS. I think I've given the instruction a good 30-40 times now. Would be a good time to get rid of the Windows XP Multi Core config - Does your OEM do it for you? sticky.

Hold up on that car wash gentlemen!!! No John I haven't... and don't hold your breathe. I'm here gathering info. I might be interested in oc'ing some time in the future(once I grow a pair, maybe). For now I just want to learn. Never heard of vbios. Maybe a sticky on flashing it is a good idea? I wouldn't want to burden eMike for the 31st-41st time. The only oc'ing I'm familiar with is Aopen mobo bios tweeks back in the dx8 days when you tweeked from the bios and rebooted the new settings. I guess things have changed since then.

well, technically speaking....you really dont need to over clock anything on the 9262. it will pretty much run the same with out over clocking. and it runs games fine with out doing so. in some cases the over clock shows and in others it's just a slight increase. and in some...virtually no movement at all.

I have actually used RivaTuner with my NP9262 to overclock my 9800M GTX. I only have 1 though. The problem with software is that the oc is not permanent. You have to flash your bios to make the oc permanent.

For help on overclocking, read this article. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclock-graphics-card,1916.html

I also have my own question. What is the max temperature the 9800m GTX can run on. I want to OC it more, but I want to know the limit.

[uote= Dgourd;4754621]I have actually used RivaTuner with my NP9262 to overclock my 9800M GTX. <--- this here. you couldn't do back then because our cards have a setting called extra and rivatuner could not read that setting.

    a few things:
1: i posted that back on 12-02-2008 08:55 AM and today is 4/18/2009
2: the over clock will stay through reboot. just download 179.48 from nvidia. it will do it automatically
3: this over clocking link is for who..you?
4: your card is set to 90'c with a threshold of 8'c and at 98'c it's either gonna shut off or down clock.

I think a sticky on overclocking the 9800m Gtx's would be nice as well. I'd like to OC mine when my np9262 gets in as well.
