    Hello guys,

    Long time reader blah blah...

I ordered my 8170 from Xotic PC about a year ago and other than it always seemed to be a little hot, its been awesome. I didn't think much of this as it was still cooler than my old Area 51 M15x core 2 duo, 9800GTX.

I hadn't had a good game/time to play until recently and now I am a bit worried!

Just now I was playing a game using the cryengine 3 and my laptop shut down all of a sudden... which to me usually means overheating.

I left it alone for a good while then started her back up and put on some temp tools. before you ask why I didn't have any already, first up I do not over clock and it is winter where I live so it is only 20c inside.

This is running the game in 1280x720 low settings.... which if i take it over the game stalls and now i am thinking this is heat realted.

Is thits normal or should i look at re-pasting the heat goo?

I did a quick search and found people posting heats more around 50-60c not 90!

My normal idle temp is around 50 for both cpu and gpu

    Specs are:

    8170
    Intel I7 2630qm
    Nvidia GTX 560m
    8GB of RAM
    120 GB SSD
    500GB SATA
    big powersupply.

I'll just ask the obvious. Have you removed the back plate and blown out the dust yet? That's one of the most common reasons for overheating.
Normal idle temps are low 40s and 99 is definitely too high for heavy use. Should be at most 90 with your system.

Glad to see you've sorted it out. You really need to clean out the laptop regularly given the amount of air going through it. Even when there isn't much dust around, there is going to be some build up over time.

I can see the difference... now running 1920x1200 on max no problems.

My old alien had a maintinance note on it so i checked it often, didnt even think about it for this one.
