    Hi

I read somewhere that it is possible to change the settings for when the fan kicks in in the vBios, is this correct?

Basically I want to move the treshold up a couple of degrees so that the fan doesn't spin while the clocks are at their minimum. (My idle temps are 38~42).

I've loaded the bios from GPU-Z into NiBiTor but I am totally new at this program so I don't want to mess things up.

I am also interested in overvolting to get more overclocking room. So far I haven't got it stable past 630 mhz :(

What are the risks to doing either of these operations, and how likely are they?

If someone wants to help a beginner with this or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it! :)

I found a couple of guides and have been reading alot.

However, under "bootup clocks" in NiBiTor it shows 1456240 Mhz for shader, core and memory. Is this normal?

All I did was copy the bios from gpu-z and load into NiBiTor.

Yes for a desktop GPU. But most notebooks don't control fan speed that way so most of the time you wont be able to change the setting for the fan with a vbios mod.

I don't know if this is the case with your notebook.

Ok, I guess I won't be trying that then..

I tried flashing the new overvolted bios and I got this error message. I tried it again, this time extracting the BIOS using nvflash, but the same message occured

EDIT: I guess using the parameters "-4 -5 -6" will bypass this check, but will it brick my card?

Yes that is normal, I have the same with my fx 3700m and I have had no trouble modding the vbios.

    Is your GPU an ES?

What bios are you trying to flash onto it (a modded version of your original bios or someone elses bios)?

It's not as ES, it came with the computer from a reseller.

I've never seen that happen before (ID change after using nibitor).

You always have to use "-4 -5 -6" parameters, it's normal. Just be sure the vbios you wanna flash is stable and that you have an original backup bios and know how to blindflash it.

    Ok. I tried this:

    nvflash -b test.rom
    nvflash test.rom

And I still got the same message..

Will it be safe to flash my modded BIOS?
Worst case scenario is blindflashing back?

    Thanks for your replies :)

I successfully flashed the bios, overvolting the gpu to 1.03.

I've overclocked to 666/1650/1000 from stock clocks 600/1500/1000 but I don't see any performance boost in 3Dmark06, just an increase of 50-60 points?

Am I doing something wrong or what?

Still, isn't it strange that there is almost no gain?
