Hello, I have had a p-650HS for about 3 years now and I have never really been to satisfied with the performance. It has consistently had high temps. I have an i7-7820HK and a gtx1070 and constantly run into thermal throttling on the GPU.
I have re pasted (using Artic MX4) and that helped the CPU temps a little but the GPU is always hot.
Idle temps for my CPU sit around 66c while the GPU idles at around 74c with an ambient temp of 18c
During gaming sessions even on less demanding games like when my son tries to play Fortnite it struggles to hold 60fps @1080p on med-high settings. with constant frame drops and stuttering due to apparent thermal throttling on the GPU.
Any Ideas on what could be done to help? Thank you.
Attatched is a screenshot of Throttlestop settings and GPU-Z while in game (Sea of thieves) just standing on med-high setting @1080p

When did you last repaste? Sometimes there's a pump out effect.
Depending how flat the heatsinks are, you may have better luck with liquid metal or go the other way and try IC diamond paste.
What's the chance of using a CoolerMaster cooling pad? -
Looking at other users with the same or similar laptop they seem to sit in the 70's playing much more demanding titles.
I am also using a cooling pad(not coolermaster).
I would be open to trying a different thermal compound or other options like thermal pads.... Would they make that big a difference?Last edited: Jul 12, 2020 -

Have you cleaned out the fins with compressed air too? What does the paste pattern look like when you take the heatsink off?
-
Not sure of the exact pattern. It does appear to have full coverage upon removing the heatsink. Not sure if the there is possibly a deformity in the heatsink that is preventing full contact or somthing. -
I would replace the heatsink with a new one.
80ºC at such low clock rates on the CPU AND undervolt that much, something is wrong with either your heatsink or you have a folded thermal pad raising the whole heatsink causing a bad thermal interface. -
