Hello,
I've been reading on the boards about the PSU of the P150SM (180W) not being able to withstand overclockings of the GPU (780m) and there are several users who have made hardware mods in order to use Dell 240W PSUs but I'm wondering if that is really necessary?
Wouldn't it be enough to just purchase a power connector and a 240W PSU and plug these in as they are, without any kinds of modifications to the units?
Thanks!
Edit: A connector such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/X75-Power-C...=Laptop_Adapters_Chargers&hash=item3cd6a7e754

In theory, if the voltage is the same (and the wires are connected properly to the dual-wire connector for P150) then other brands of PSU's can be used.
So far, most laptops with 220W or 240W adapters are with 4-pin connectors and Ive no idea how that translates into the dual-pin for the P150. -

It can work, you have to be careful of the gauge of the wire inside the converter so it's not getting hot.

I appreciate the replies!
Why would it become too hot, shouldn't it be designed to handle the "stress"?
Anyway, so the worst thing that could happen is that the wire is fried, but would that also put the computer itself at risk? It sounds like it could result in damage to the board + potentially start a fire -

Designed for what purpose though? Hooking up a CCTV 60W system with a different brick?
If the cable burned up it could take the brick and machine with it, so be careful. -
Hehe, yeah I guess it's not designed specifically for the discussed purpose, which is too bad
.
Meaker I noticed on an older thread that you might be able to provide with a 240W/330W PSU hardware modded to fit a P150*M, is this still a possibility? -

If you want something like that from me it would need to be a PM request since it would be directly from me and nothing to do with PNB.

Ok, PM sent!
