    Hi!
I had this problem for a long time and couldn't find the reason for it. I was sure the fault was with the 7970m beta drivers. Seems though that the fault lies with the advanced power settings in windows 7. In my case the power settings for the power saver, balanced and high performance schemes were by default clearly making the igpu confused on startup......
After I changed the settings I have not had 1 BSOD on startup, be it battery or power adapter.
Just wanted to share in case someone else has a similar problem :)
I have to admit I also changed the global settings for powerplay in CCC to "maximize performance" on both battery and "plugged in" , so it could still actually be something with the beta drivers.....

Although the BETA drivers have fixed quite a few issues that the 7970m has had (particularly with Enduro), they're still "BETA". So it's not surprising that the driver is hit or miss on some fixes.

Thanks for the info! Power plans play a major role in some applications.

I am pretty sure I have isolated the issue, and it is pretty annoying. suddenly yesterday I got BSOD'ed on booting(again with power adapter). so I looked at my former power settings and the only change was that the Intel HD 4000 had reverted back to maximum battery life( when on battery). Soooo, I switched it back to maximum performance , and everything is back to normal.... Until next time the IGPU decides to reconfigure itself.

So what do I need to change to fix this exactly?

The BIOS recognizes the 7970m as the main graphics card, but when your settings are forcing battery life, it tries to also force the HD 4000, and it fails. As my BSOD says, the lap tries to reset the display adapter, but the power saving "powers" through.
You could try the following settings and if you are not happy with them, try to change the parameters later one- by one.
    - In the power settings > change andvanced power settings, change settings for the Intel integrated graphics + the ATI settings to maximum performance on both "battery" and "plugged in" I did this for the "high performance" power plan + the "balanced" power plan, but I left power saver alone as I don't use it very often and can switch on demand(I never boot on it)
    - Open the Intel HD graphics from the taskbar, and choose graphics properties>advanced mode>power. Set both " plugged in " and "battery" to maximum performance.
    - Now it shouldn't matter but I just don't know what AMD services are running as windows desktop loads, so I chose to set both powerplay and switchable graphics global settings to maximum performance for both "plugged in" and "battery" in CCC.
    - As I said you can always try to change all these one at a time and reboot to see the results, so.....

The only thing I can say is that it works, and if I want power savings I just switch to that power plan or set up CCC differently. Actually I can understand that problems occur when both microsoft, Intel and AMD try to enforce power plans on the same system...

Yes, PushT is correct in that activity on battery is defaulted to Intel HD graphics - for the sake of battery preservation. Enduro has experienced some minor issues whether on battery or not, but if you set everything to max performance, you should be all set. :)

It could be a real hassle if windows update or some app installation or system process asks you to reboot, you have maximize battery settings turned on, and then you forget to pull out the power cord.....
Thank god for an easy fix for once....
