    Hey guys,

I now I have noticed my CPU fan doesn't speed up when under load. I never ran a CPU-Only torture test until Prime95, 5 minutes ago. I always got temps in the mid to high 90s and I thought it was because of my thermal paste (I have a tube of IC Diamond being delivered tomorrow). The reason I never noticed this before is because in games, the GPU fan always sped up and I just thought the CPU fan was a small bit quieter.

I downloaded Speed Fan but I can seem to get the RPM monitoring working, or the ability to change the fan speeds. FN+1 doesn't work on my laptop either. (The previous owner never updated the bios since he got in on the first week of release)

Anyone have any advice? There doesn't seem to be much air being pushed out the back either. The GPU side pushes a lot more air.

the Fn + 1 worked on the HM models and then was removed on the EM models by everyone but sager ive heard and now its back on the SM models.
as yours is a sager i would contact them for support. or did you buy from xotic, prostar etc as im not sure if they had the fan option active as well.
im in the uk so not sure how sager and other resellers in the states work.

I'm in Ireland, lol. I bought it second hand but the previous owner bought it from PCSpecialist.

After a hard shut down, it seems like things are working fine. Seems like a strange issue. Seeing normal temps now, between 68 and 78.

How much dust is in the Heatsink and in the Fan itself, even a bit can raise temps by a big margin.

You can always flash Prema's modded BIOS and enjoy Fn + 1 max fan setting plus other optimizations, plus more aggressive default fan profile.

Well, thats embarrassing. I thought it all fixed it self, but I forgot to plug in the charger.. That explains a lot. Temps are back up to the high 90s again but the fan now runs at proper speeds, I think. I'll repost tomorrow with the TIM results.

Repasted with IC Diamond this morning. Now CPU temperatures Stay between 74-80! Thats coming down from 91-99.
GPU would run at 94 in Furmark after 5 minutes. It now runs at 76 15 minutes in and doesn't go a fraction over.

Original thermal application was done by PCSpecialist with MX-4 roughly 11 months ago.

Always worth doing a paste job yourself if you know what you are doing.

Yep. My results are better than this morning now! I think the paste as spread evenly now. CPU stays between 70 - 77 in Prime and GPU stays at 75 in Furmark. Could not be happier. 20-30 degree difference for 10 euro. Next plan is to get some ram heatsinks, a U2 and mod the bottom panel.

Also, My CPU used to Idle at 54-59 now its between 49-52. The GPU fan used to ramp up on idle as well.. no more of that.. sits nicely at 38-39

Unless you want to oc with your current temps it's not worth it.

I do plan on overclocking. I was able to hit 1000 core 1500 memory quite well before I repasted. I only saw a 3 degree difference. I will probably be benching as well.

I think the CPU should also idle at 39 but the fan profiles may be different than HM1 and SM1.

I don't know if its the same with laptops, but Ivy Bridge was always hotter. From what I've seen, the mid 40s are the average.

My temps seem to be getting better and better. Idling now at 42

At least we don't have to worry about crummy paste between a heat spreader and the die :D

Yep! At least I don't have to shove a razor through my CPU or put it in a vice to fix the TIM :p
