I am interested about my idle temperature on my CPU which seems rather high.

It runs at 60-65 degrees max.

When running a game can reach 80-87degrees quite easily. This is on all 4 cores.

Is this quite normal? For me it appears to be a little too hot but perhaps I am wrong.

I have had this laptop for around 4 months.

If you could give me some information on this issue it would be a great help.

    Many thanks!

at idle? that's definitely too warm. not too warm like dangerously warm, but too warm by about ~20C. the 3610 in my 9150 idles between 38-48C. usually never breaks 70C under load/while gaming. has the machine always run that hot? do you think you might benefit from a good dusting/cleaning? did you order stock paste or IC diamond, and have you repasted at all? what are you using to monitor temps?

And to build upon mattcheau's questions: is the laptop sitting flat on a surface that would cause little to no heat dissipation? You should clean the vents/fans regularly - especially if you use the laptop on a daily basis. If heat can't escape as a result of dust or the surface it's sitting on, then those temps will skyrocket

And yes, 60-65 degrees Celsius is too high for idle (but again, as mattcheau said: not dangerous).

Your maximum temperatures could be worse and could be better too.

Usually a small delta like that would indicate a slightly dodgy pasting job but cleaning the heatsinks and making it sure it's positioned properly are easy checks and worth doing regardless.

Ok, so after opening my laptop I found a rather large amount of dust stuck over the fan vents on the inside... Wow, after clearing this there is a large change in temps!

Also another thing, I found that if I now rise the back of the laptop slightly on a book or number of magazines it allows for low temps.

    Thanks for the information guys!

Yes, this notebook gets nothing from fans put below it but a lot from having room to "breathe" properly.

What kind of temps would one expect when running Prime95 ? My 3610QM reaches 90 degrees and maybe more if I let it run longer...
I have cleaned both cpu and heatsink & applied new thermal paste (actually tried 2 different products - Thermaltake Chill Factor & Nexus TMP-1000) but still the load temps are awful.
More than that I have also applied the foil tape seal in there and I am using Cooler Master NotePal U2 cooler upside down without fans - that way the laptop have plenty of space to breathe. The fans on that cooler seemed to do nothing at all.

Prime95 is an unrealistic loading scenario so you would expect some high temperatures.

What frequency is your CPU throughout the test?

3100MHz if I have something that activates GPU, otherwise 3300MHz. Thats the turbo mode right?

    Edit: It's 3100MHz.

Get a laptop cooler. a $30-$40 investment on a $1000+ machine is a small and very worthwhile investment.

    My coolerpad u3 does wonders.

The sager machines tend to need extra vent holes to use more airflow. Just raise the back of the machine.

Also it's 3.1ghz for all cores, 3.3ghz for a single core.

I meant that over 90c Prime95 result. And while doing that 3100MHz turbo on. On the other hand my CPU fan doesnt seem to get over 2500rpm, is that normal? GPU one maxes around 3000.
Sorry if these are stupid questions, just asking since I have no idea myself.

Well let's analyse the results. At the most your cpu will hit 90c under any situation and maintain maximum turbo. That's perfectly fine.

I also had temperature issues with my 3610qm a few months ago. It could hit more than 90 C in a lot of games like bf 3, metro , so I started to by suspicous. After running prime it would hit 95 C, so I decidet to do another repaste job. When I unmounted the heatsink from the CPU I saw a small air buble in the centre of the paste, So I cleaned it, put a small dot in the middle, put the heat sink on a let the pressure from turning the bolts spread the paste. From that moment temperature never went higher than 72 C even in steress tests like PRIME. My idle temps are from 45 -50 an all cores. Hope this helps

Yeah maybe I give it a one more shot, order some new paste and do it once more.

Always worth having enough to try again, those pesky air bubbles creep in from time to time.
