With all the focus on the 7970M temps in other threads, I haven't seem many users reporting their CPU temps.
I have a 3720QM and I think my temps are pretty high, when running multiple broswer tabs with flash or when gaming my CPU temps goes up to 99C (using HWMonitor) and idles at 60C with 0-5% CPU usage, room temp is approx 25C

To me this doesn't sound normal, what should the temps be under heavy load? will the ivy bridge suffer performance hit being at 99C?

Oh and using a laptop cooler with 2 fans doesn't make any difference to the CPU temps

I would also like to know what temps are acceptable for both the 7970m and CPU.

Just tested the CPU (i7-3630) with prime95 (small FFTs) and hit 80 86 91 84 on the cores.
so your temps seem really high..

Definitely much higher then it should be. CPU temps should max around 75-80C and thats even higher then ideal. If the vents and fans are clean/clear make sure the heat sink is tight and consider repasting the thermal compound.

80C MAX when using applications like prime95?

Prime95 is always an exception as it will make your temps higher then any real world use would. You will see higher then 80C when using that.

Hmm mine idles around 55C and goes up to 91-92 when I do heavy tasks like encoding or the like. I am now considering a repaste if XoticPC says they shouldn't go much over 80?

Opening the bottom cover does help with the temps, ive tried putting pressure on each corner of the CPU heat sink and confirms it makes no difference to the temps. What I'm surprised is that the notebook cooler doesn't make any difference, I guess the vents on the bottom is too small for any additional air to travel through even with a cooler.

Will try a repaste, what's a good paste? The laptop came with the diamond paste.

    hi all!

I'm getting concerned about my cpu here if this is the max temp allowed.. I was playing GW2 earlier and max temp was 75. This was with Fn +1 (max fans) enabled. core 1 to 4 ranged from 70 to 75.. Should I repaste? or keep this as is?

And I might as well add this here:

7970m Temps. Got it to about 74c with medium settings in GW2. With max fans enabled. and using 12.11 beta (This running pretty hot?)

    Thanks!

    Sev

    oh.. I have the 3610QM.. =)

Temps through the roof again, 50% throttle :(

Any long term solution apart from repasting every 2-3 months?

congrats as you are beating me by a few degrees.
intel extreme sure does push it up and mine hit mid 90c but your 2 cores at 96c and 2 at 97c are a record. think my max throttle was about 34% but only using this software and not in game.
what sort of temps are you getting in games (use msi afterburner in sig below) and also maybe core temps to monitor during games.

when was the last time you cleaned the fans and vents out and also what is your ambient room temperature.
