Hi i got a I7-3740QM and when running on battery it doesnt matter what i am doing or what profile i have the laptop set to the cpu wont go above 1.8Ghz, plugging it in allows it to go above 1.8Ghz

Now i understand turbo only overclocks when its safe but i thought on battery the CPU would still go up to its highest non turbo speed 2.7Ghz when running something like a cpu benchmark,

Does anyone else's laptop do this?

i think its just because the battery cant take the stress and strain of running a benchmark or gaming.
as far as i know running on battery will only use the HD4000 intergrated graphics so not use its full potential of the cpu

na this laptop seem o game on battery fine hardly a fps difference plugged in or on battery its using the nvidia gpu on battery.

my old m14x would turbo its 3610qm up to 3.1Ghz whilst on battery still.

not advised to game on battery as its the easiest way to kill it quicker.

Yea i wont do it normally just seeing how well it coped it makes a buzzing noise when you do game on battery,

im still puzzeled as to why if i can game on battery when just doing normal tasks the CPU never goes past 1.8Ghz, as if it can power the GPU on battery why not just the CPU on its own? when i plug it in it turbos like normal.

Well gaming on battery is one of the best ways to kill a poor little battery with great haste which doesn't seem so positive. But if you want Turbo boost enabled while on battery, you could try using ThrottleStop 5.00 and set the multiplier on turbo in the profile for battery mode.

Just a side note: It can power the GPU while on battery, but it'll be running at very low clocks Core 135MHz / Mem 800MHz (GPU-Z@135/400).

oh im using a modded vbios runs at max clock on battery :/ get 50fps on ultra on BF3 on battery, not in a hurry to make it turbo on battery just wanted to make sure its normal for p150em laptop to max at 1.8Ghz on battery.
Can someone please conform if when running on battery their p150em only goes to 1.8Ghz?

Mine can reach 3.5GHz while on battery :D But without ThrottleStop it only goes to 1.8GHz.

Have you looked at your temps? It's possible the CPU is downclocking via SpeedStep to avoid overheating (but if it's not doing it on AC adapter, it's probably energy conservation related). Otherwise, it's probably not malfunctioning, and you will need to use ThrottleStop to prevent the SpeedStep from lowering your frequency.
