Hi all,
I have P150em with 3720q cpu.its temperature at idle 55 C.in game about 70-80 C.is it normal?
-
yep, those temps are within norms for 3720qm.
-
yup perfectly normal.
this is after 1 hour of MW3 with all settings on super duper high -
Without ThrotleStop I'm seeing 2.7GHz on my i7-3740QM when gaming, after turning throttleStop on, it always runs at 3.2-3.5GHz on all 4 cores when gaming. The FPS in certain games that relies on the CPU will raise too, also including the temperature. -
to be honest mate, i have no fEkin idea
me dont even know what throttlestop is. or actually even turbo boost.
overclocking doesnt interest me and as long as games run im happy. -
Having it running in the background will also stop the P150EM from disabling i3 i5 i7 CPU's Turbo boost feature when the GPU is active. -
thats interesting to know, thanks for that info.
-
thanks for replies

Those are similar temps to mine with Trottlestop 5.0 setup on mine.

Turbo Boost works as normal in the NP9150. Only the W series has that feature described, I believe. I tried some benchmarks both with throttlestop in the background and closed, which returned nearly identical results (within 10 3DMark's). Also, as you see on many 3DMark11 posts, that'll read the CPU at higher than 2.6GHz.
-
Here is a screenshot with Prime running and Kombuster running in the background but not benchmarks yet;
The cores are in Turbo mode and everything running smooth;
As soon as I run a benchmark on Kombuster, it drops my base clock to 2.6. It stays at 2.6 Ghz until I close the application using my Nvidia card, or enable ThrottleStop. Here is a screen shot where it disables the Turbo;
As soon as you close Kombuster, it enables the Turbo, as soon as I open another application that uses my Nvidia card, it disables the Turbo. I reported the issue to Sager. We will see what they say. -
I don't see that in gaming very often. The i7 is still extremely powerful even at 2.6GHz, and since Kombustor barely uses the CPU, the processor won't go into turbo mode. Do you have recordings of in-game CPU usage?
-
Hmm I'll have to try something like that then.... Maybe my benchmarks didn't use all 4 cores. It definitely went higher than 2.6 though and there's no way the Intel 4000 could do 6k 3DMark11 or 40fps in Crysis..
EDIT @ above, he's using prime95 to stress the CPU, as shown it can get it to turbo with throttlestop on
EDIT2: I'm realize I was wrong in my earlier post. I don't understand why Clevo would do that to their performance series of laptops. I knew it was a feature of at least the W110ER, but I didn't know it was also on the P150EM. What about 170EM if anyone knows...? To verify for myself I ran Kombuster at 1280x720 windwowed with 8x MSAA and post-fx enabled to get the GPU going, while using ThrottleStop's built in benchmark at 32M. I compared my times with it on and off, as well as trying to force turbo boost with the "set multiplier" box. This makes me want to re-run some benches now, thanks mate. +Rep -
You're right, my bad. I still wonder what his recordings during gaming look like though.
-
Well I ran 3DMark 11 again with ThrottleStop in 3 different states to see how it affected things.
First, I ran the benchmark with ThrottleStop off, monitoring only -- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,CLEVO P15xEMx score: P6200 3DMarks
Second, I turned ThrottleStop on, but left the "set multiplier: Turbo" box unchecked. I believe this is how joeelmex said to use it, just on and in the background -- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,CLEVO P15xEMx score: P6211 3DMarks
Lastly, I had ThrottleStop on and checked the box "set multiplier: Turbo." Once again, it didn't do anything, except this time 3DMark 11 read the CPU speed as 3.4GHz as opposed to 2.3GHz, but I don't think that really matters -- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3720QM Processor,CLEVO P15xEMx score: P6207 3DMarks
There aren't many games I can think of that would really be helped out here, as you can see in the detailed view dropdown that the Physics test as well as Combined test scores were all nearly identical. Perhaps S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat may run better, as it only uses 1 core. I will try that next, but if I don't have it installed (don't remember at the moment) then I won't have it downloaded from Steam until tomorrow.
EDIT: I have the benchmark and it doesn't need the entire game installed as Crysis does. I'll run a few different trials now and then update this post.
Here are the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat benchmark results. I had it run at 1920x1080 with all the settings maxed (except SSAO mode, I put that at "default" because I don't know the difference between HBAO and HDAO). I ran it like this: throttlestop off but open, throttlestop on, throttlestop on and setmultiplier=turbo checked. There was really no difference between the tests, and this game is single threaded, so it should have seen some kind of improvement if it was really stuck at 2.6GHz without ThrottleStop. I will run it one more time with the ThrottleStop application not even open and see if that's any different than having it set to "off."
Ok I am headed to bed now, but my last attachment is from running that same S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat benchmark without the ThrottleStop application even open. It was actually my best run I had lol. I don't know, according to CPU-Z they don't step up when the GPU is on, but I just oploaded 4 different scenarios running a single threaded process that is heavy on both the CPU and GPU with no performance differences. 2.6GHz to 3.6GHz should be a noticeable difference, don't you think? I can try using the super overvolted video BIOS for the 680M and setting it up at like 1GHz core + 1.25GHz memory to see if I can get the CPU a bit more involved tomorrow.Attached Files:

This issue affects FFXIV's FPS directly in town:
ThrottleStop Off
ThrottleStop On
This is with a GTX675M, I lost 4.5fps and 8% GPU utilization right there at the same place, same view. Notice the CPU temp goes up right when I turn ThrottleStop on as the Turbo Boost is enabled again. -
OK thanks hackness. So, to see the benefits of ThrottleStop, we need to be playing a game that can max out all 4 cores? I tried a similar test in Crysis 1 both at maxed out settings and minimum (to see if lowering the GPU load would affect anything) and saw .4 fps difference. What are some other games that will utilize all 4 cores? Battlefield 3 and Skyrim perhaps? I believe Civilization V is somewhat CPU-heavy, but to get there you have to play a bit into the game and have a very large world with lots of things moving at once.
-
However for BF3 I didn't compare as I'm always running BF3 in fullscreen mode, but if I don't turn on ThrottleStop, the temp after an hour of playing is only around 80C, and with ThrottleStop enabled it usually end up at 87C~90C I think this is because Turbo boost is working.
Edit: The reason in FFXIV it only happens in town is because there are many characters there. In FFXIV characters are defined by the CPU and then passes the defined definition to the GPU to render the texture. So when it comes to character rendering the GPU usage is closely related to the CPU, so games under a similar circumstance might see an increase in FPS when the Turbo boost is enabled, I believe in some maps in BF3 might have a similar situation. -
Not to do any Hi-jacking I wanted to ask if my CPU temps where fairly normal as the paranoid person I am without making a new thread.
I have the P150EM with 3610QM and it idle's at 47c-56c and under 100% load 78c-91c and being my 1st laptop (always had custom built desktops but need something for school) guess I'm a bit spoiled on my desktops temps and iffy on what to expect -
-
Ah good to know I don't know if its bad enough to redo the paste even tho it came with IC diamond. I got Arctic silver 5 laying around from my desktops tho well guess I'll probably just end up swapping out the keyboard(dam drimel tool edges on Steelseries) and dib it a rushy job puting it together from Xoticpc x.x Thanx for the reply tho.

Sager responded to me, they believe I have a bad windows install. To re-install Windows with no 3rd party programs and start from scratch. I told them I am not the only one with this issue and 3 people here have reported the same thing. I forward this link to them. I wont be playing games with them, I told my re-seller to get the ball rolling on the return and Sager can keep their shady practices.
