    Hey Guys!

I am not sure if this is possible so I'm bringing it out here. I currently have a P150EM from xotic pc with 7970m and 3610qm. I'm okay with the video card and currently would like to upgrade my Processor. I have this in mind or something faster. i7 3820qm

Is this compatible with our board? Or if you guys could point me in the right direction, that would be awesome!! Thanks a lot!!! =)

You sure can upgrade to that! Keep your eye out for a 3840QM, if you can find one for a similar price. Little speed bump.

Cool! okay.. so for example if I get that, what should I be doing? Just take out old Proc and put in new one?

And I'm wondering why this xm chip is cheaper by nearly $100 than the 3840qm.

This chip requires 55w I think. But can we still use it?

    Thanks!

    Sev

All you have to do is take out the old and put in the new, dont forget good thermal compound.

No sure why that CPU is priced like that but it should work too.

    @Hutsady

So it wont matter if it requires 55w? Cause the 3840/3820qm's only need 45w. Will my PSU be able to supply enough power for it? I have the stock one.. Just asking before making commitment XD

    Thanks!

The P150EM (Sager NP9150) is fine to handle the XM CPU's the P151EM (Sager NP9130) maxed out on the 45w CPU's. Your PSU will handle it no problem.
However as a disclaimer, since you're not getting that directly from us I cant guarantee it will work.

    @ Hutsady

Thank you! =) Now i'm just wondering if you can see notable difference in games and applications when using the XM chip compared to the 3610qm..

Having a better CPU can help depending on the game you're playing. The majority of your performance is going to be based on the video card though. The better CPU will help in CPU demanding parts/games but dont expect a large performance game. If you're looking to get that for better gaming its not worth the price/performance increase in my opinion.

Okay.. =) Thank you.. Glad to hear that. I would've been wrong if I got that and would hope for noticeable gains in gaming..

Also, I'd recommend sticking to a 3820/3840. The 3920xm is a QS part.

I see a couple 3820s hovering around $250. That's a decent price for the upgrade.

That and to overclock you have to crossflash anyway and the tiny stock difference is not great.

if you ask the seller to sell outside ebay (ie. just send them straight through paypal), they will knock off another 5% or so

The 3820qm is going to be able to reach 3.9ghz on all 4 cores even if you do unlock it which is enough for most people out there after all.
