So previously during the summer, I was having a problem where my computer would refuse to sleep - where the keyboard was still lit, power light still on, and the power button still on, but apparently my computer considered to be "asleep" - when it really wasn't, which was an annoying problem since it would continue to use battery. For a while, the problem went away, but ever since last month, it has returned but with a catch - when I attempt to wake up my computer, I get a blue screen, evidently caused by dxgkrnl.sys. The more annoying part is, I can't seem to figure out what the problem is, since it appears to happen unpredictably. I ran a WhoCrashed analysis, and this is what it came up with

However, I have no idea how to fix this problem. It's incredibly annoying to not be able to have your computer go to sleep, and even more when it "wakes up" with a blue screen.

TL;DR: sometimes my computer won't sleep, and when i attempt it to wake it from its fake sleep, i get a blue screen caused by dxgkrnl.sys

First, uninstall your video card drivers and reinstall the latest (AMD, I'm guessing? You didn't mention your specs, but I've read this issue is related to AMD drivers). If that doesn't seem to cure it, try testing your memory. You can let MemTest86+ run through a few passes, or you can test each module individually by removing all but one stick, and testing them one by one.

If it's not memory nor a driver, then I would surmise it's either directly related to your hard drive (bad sectors, possibly), or one or more corrupt Windows files/registry entries.

Yeah, 7970M. I just reinstalled drivers and I'm still having the issues. I'll try the memtest next.

    install 13.1 or 13.2 beta6 CCC driver.
Also enter CCC and check your power option throughly, both plugged in and on battery, things like "when the lid is closed" and sleep of course.
I discovered in mine that moving my wireless mouse when the laptop is closedand sleeping wakes him up! so pay attention if you use a similar device and turn it off BEFORE entering sleep mode.

    hope it helps.

ok well i highly doubt it's the driver, since I've already reinstalled 13.1 twice and the problem still occurs. I ran through several tests of Memtest86+ and nothing turned up. How would I be able to figure out if it was bad sectors on my hard drives/corrupt files and how would i fix them? D:

I have not had any single machine that wouldn't have problems with Sleep or Hibernation. MS just can't get their sh!t to work right.

ok so it seems the error code does apparently point to the GPU. Strangely, Microsoft says it is the "overutilization" of the GPU (7970M) that causes this crash...

I'm running on 13.1, though. I thought it was supposed to be stable drivers. Then again, this problem only did start occurring after I installed 13.1, so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try out 13.2 beta6 drivers...

I am totally against uninstall tools but in this case you might want to try completely wiping the ATI software and then reinstall fresh.

Ok, well, I just updated to 13.2 Beta6 and the problem is still reoccurring. So AMD Drivers, and bad RAM are out of the picture. It's a strange problem, though. The computer believes it's asleep (like you can hear certain things turn off), but the CPU fan, keyboard, power button light, and power indicator light are all still on. When I get the BSOD when I try to wake it, it points to 0x000007E, which says something about GPU overutilization, which is odd, because the GPU fan actually turns off.

I dunno, I'll dig through some power options; it may be hardware-related since I was having this problem back in 2012 summer, and I've uninstall/reinstalled a fresh copy of Windows in between that time though although back then I didn't get a BSOD on wake...

by any chance you're running any temperature monitoring software in background? if yes, uninstall those and test again.

Nope, not running any temperature monitoring stuff in the background.

So today, my laptop gave me the middle finger. I attempted to close to lid to have it go to sleep, but as expected, it didn't. So I just shut it off via the power button, and when I was starting it back up, it reached the Windows login screen, and THEN it decided to go to sleep...

    finall found this thread.

To the point, my laptop does the exact same thing. Im doubtful it is the card, cause it just got replaced. temps are never above 80 degrees for any component.

Secondly, the laptop only hangs if it is not in high performence mode.
Lastly it seems as the 7970m is refusing to shut down, as it starts up on power down...
