Just got my laptop today and it detected the VGA. but after a reboot it stopped detecting the card. after a few reboots, it began detecting the card again. What could be the cause of this problem?
The laptop is on a desk so I doubt the VGA is loose.

Are you doing anything when it detects it or when it doesnt, and what software are you using to see its detected.
Your computer has Optimus technology which switches video cards depending on what you're doing so it could just not be showing if you're not doing any thing GPU demanding because its using the Intel 4000. Turn on a game and it should switch on. -

Downgraded to windows 7 and now I can't install the nvidia drivers
EDIT: bios seems to be detecting 680m now but still can't install drivers on w7 -
I have installed the drivers, now I boot into a black screen after the logo

It is rare but sometimes the heatsink can get loose during shipment which could cause it. If its a Sager you're ok to open up the bottom of the comptuer and check that. If its a different reseller you'll want to check with them about their policies first.

Okay, I can boot into windows with the PSU disconnected. I started AC brotherhood with the nVidia gpu and got 10-20 fps. This is clearly due to the PSU not being plugged in, but the moment I plugged it in the computer froze. Do I have a bad unit?

firstly can you tell us what spec you have
did you have windows 7 or 8 pre loaded or did you do clean install yourself.
also did you get the driver disc with your laptop as the drivers need to be loaded in that order.
as mentioned something could of worked lose in transit but it does sounds like you have a bad brick. what colour light is on the brick when you plug it in.
clevo's are user upgradable so warranty is not affected by removing the base plate. just check around in there to see if the ram or anything else may be lose. in the mean time contact support to see what they suggest.
edit:
above post. thats one way to find out running a game on battery for a very short time but its not recommended as it will drain your battery very quickly and if it is the psu then once your battery is drained you will have no power to your laptop at all. -
Self Installed
The brick LED is green I believe
And yes I used the drivers CD -
green, hmmm im sure mine is blue. can anyone else clarify this. at work so cant check until tonight.

Also realized Pro-Star they gave me a 3630 not a 3610 that I asked for. -

UPDATE: ProStar tech told me to reinstall Windows and install drivers from website. Doesn't seem like it will help but i'll try anyways. -
good luck buddy

As expected, updating did not help. Any other advice?
