    Hello !
My configuration is in my signature. I am just wondering if somebody could enlighten me as to what pci express version is actually active on the system. Pc wizard and HWINFO64 report :

    - PCI Express 3.0, 8.0 Gb/s x16 link speed for Wimbledon xt(7970m).

    - PCI Express 2.0 , x16 , 2.5Gb/s link speed for port 0 where the 7970m is.

-PCI Express 2.0, 5.0 Gb/s link speed (but 2.5 active) for Intel panther point pch.

-PCI Express 1.1, 2.5 Gb/s x16 link speed for Intel Ivy Bridge DT - pci express graphics root port.

On top of that, the 3610qm is supposed to have pci express 3.0 support.....

Exactly how is this set up, and what is up with this version 1.1 of pcie on my root port ?

I updated the chipset, and right after the update I got a pop-up that said some thermal acpi thingy was installing drivers. Nothing changed so I shut down, but then when I booted up just now Pc Wizard shows a link speed of 5 Gb/s on both Ivy bridge pcie port + wimdbledon xt port.
Now I am well aware that I can't make use of more than 16 lanes on the 7970m, but what are the potential effects of this haywire on my system ? Are there any ?
Funny thing though, now HWinfo64 states the following:
    - Maximum link speed (pci express) : 2.5Gb/s
    - Current link speed (pci express) : 5.0 Gb/s

hmmm I wonder if there is any benefit of using the provided chipset drivers.
Currently Im using the default windows7 drivers for the chipset (aside from the USB 3.0 drivers).

I used the chipset detection utility on Intel's pages and the drivers are from late December 2012, but I have no idea what is going on here. I can understand that the link speeds are dynamically changing( to adapt to the hardware), but I would like to know what version the system is capable of. As far as I can see( After seeing the link speed change) I would say 5.0 Gb/s , but I really don't understand why I can't find any info on this...
In my case windows 7 did not register either of these in device manager:
    - Intel(R) HM77 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E57
    - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1E10
    - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1E12
    - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1E14
    - Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 1E16

After running the Intel chipset utility they show up in device manager....

ur system is capable of pci express 3.0 at 16 lanes pertaining to the dGPU, translating into a max. bandwidth of 15.75 GB/s (check wiki for more details ;))
and yes, its dynamically managed depending on the bandwidth needed in any current situation, so its able to downclock properly to save power.
