Sometimes (especially when I'm playing games in windowed mode) the fans will just stop and the computer will overheat and shut off. Quickly fn-1ing will fix it but sometimes it's too late.

Anyone know what may be the problem?

well.. You could always set up MSI Afterburners custom fan settings so it forcibly turns on the fan at certain temperatures, this could be the easiest way to fix it.. But to actually do it without a program I wouldn't know how.

Have you overclocked the machine at all, or is it doing this with stock settings? You could try updating to the newest bios if you haven't already, as it should help with fan control.

I had the same problem. And it was just the GTX460m. The gpu fan stopped even temps was at nearly 90 deg. The newer bios version showed no better results. I sent it back.

Haven't overclocked at all. It is a bit hot lately (ambient temp around 30C). I just don't understand why the fans just stop when it's getting insanely hot. I guess I'll try out a new bios.

GPU fan for sure shouldn't stop with it that hot.

Its possible the fan sensor is having issues. Maybe the sensor is failing and when it gets hot it cuts in and out taking fan with it?

Sounds like its time to check with your reseller about getting RMA handled. :( worrys me to see two people say it though. Hopefully not a widespread issue.

The sensor seems to be working since hardware monitor works just fine. Seems to me like an issue with the bios or EC but I can't be certain.

Yes, the sensors were working in my p150hm also. I tried also some different versions of bios, because I thought that should solve my problem. But it hadn´t. The fan worked infrequent, no matter what temperature the gpu had. It shut down at 104 deg. With F1+1 the fan worked fine. I don´t believe it is a bios problem. My advice, call the reseller for RMA.

I'd agree on an RMA. You shouldn't have to run at full fan speed, it sounds like a fan controller or temp sensor issue if the new bios doesn't help and you haven't over locked or anything. While it shutting down from overheating means its protecting itself from damage, it still shouldn't be happening.

I just got a BIOS and EC from my reseller. Will see if it fixes the problem.

    Guys,

Anyone knows a resolution for this? I started having the same problem, and it is something that happened overtime, I don't know why.

Now, when playing games if the GPU heats over 100C the fan shuts down. MSI afterburner and other softwares fail to control it as well, it is a pain.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Btw, I'm running a P150hm with the Radeon HD6900M series

Could you please tell us how long you have had your laptop and if you have ever blown the dust out of your heatsinks and fans?

Also, it may help to watch what the fans are doing if you have an idea of how to re-create it. Just see if the fans stop working entirely or if they just spin down too low to make a difference in cooling.

If your laptop is still under warranty, it might be a good idea to see about getting an RMA if the above suggestions have not helped.
