P150HM/8150 CMOS Reset Help

Hey NBR,

So my laptop has been refusing to turn on for over a day now. Preliminary research points to the conclusion that it needs a CMOS reset (The flashing power LED when I try to turn it on is indicative of this). I followed the instructions for this via the XoticPC video and the clevo guide, but am having trouble accessing the CMOS battery as the screws to the keyboard (under that removable speaker "grill") are very, very tight. Did anyone else have the same problem when trying to do this? Maybe the problem is that I am just weak or that the screwdriver I'm using doesn't have enough grip.

I'd honestly just send my laptop back to Malibal but I don't know if that is the best idea, especially considering their shaky reputation as of late. I am sure that a CMOS reset would fix the problem. I don't want to mess around with it and potentially complicate the problem even more. Is there anyone I can give my laptop to to get it fixed, would people at the likes of Best Buy suffice? Are there any specific tools I can use to unscrew them? I know that I bought my PC from Malibal, but would any other it be possible to send it in to any other reputable reseller like Xotic or PNB (to name a few) so that they can do it? I know what to do, but don't want to ruin the screws trying to unsrew the thing. Is there any alternative way for a CMOS reset?

Just had something very similar happen to my Origin (P170hm)... The easiest way to reset it for me was to pull one stick of RAM and then try and boot. For whatever reason it causes something in CMOS to reset ao that you can get into the bios. In there, select 'load factory defaults' and save the change. Shutdown and reinstall your RAM stick.

Its much easier than trying to monkey with the battery.

When my laptop did that it had to get a new MB as the power regulator on it had failed. Made me happy I did 3 year warranty...

That said, warranty and business reputation was one big factor in whom I buy from. I love to help the little guys and some of them are great but having worked for a lot of small businesses myself I know things are rough and no promise they will be around forever. Thus why I got from a Sager reseller as I know Sager is a bit more stable

I kinda wish Clevo or someone direct handled all the warranty for the others as well as I would really like to get one from another reseller but after researching and finding out they only have a few employees and low yearly profit it scared me because of the warranty bit. I am not mentioning any names though as that wouldn't be right and it doesn't always mean they are a bad company or will be gone for sure but these are things to keep in mind when you make a big purchase.

Anyway. Sometimes those screws can be tight (by the last person going a little too crazy on them). Just make sure you're using the proper size screwdriver as to not strip the head and just put some pressure down and turn. Maybe they used some lock tight or something on it.

I personally wouldn't use Best Buy or anything else unless you knew a specific person and they are decent. You can however probably find a small computer shop that will remove the screws if you're afraid to and reset the CMOS for probably not much money. It's a 5-10 min job really but just remember no promise it will fix it but hopefully.. Also, be sure to keep the main battery out while doing any of this.

 

Putting in a different arrangement of ram does reset a lot of timings and such in the bios since it has to recalibrate the links.

 

Hi everyone! today my Clevo P150HM was out.at first he start change a screen brightens (power plan).i was worry about power block , so , i use only a battery until the end. after all i try to reboot with power connected ,and it was no luck ...
so,i desire to reset a cmos. thanks a lot for this posts! i has to clean a battery and reconnect -now i am online again!!!

Cool, an odd problem you had there but glad it's all working. If it happens again I would suspect your power brick.
