So I thought my fingerprint reader died over a year ago when it just disappeared from device manager and never to be found again. Yesterday, I was looking through device manager and saw it re-appeared. So I reinstall the drivers and it starts working again. However, since I have to shutdown my machine due to 680M not waking up from sleep I've noticed that the reader doesn't appear to the system every time. I guess there is a bad connection or something stuck in there. If anyone has experience with this issue, what would be the best way to solve it? It's not a software problem since this is an issue across windows 7 and 8.

    Thanks

There's probably a cable for it which isn't properly connected.. You'll need to disassemble the palmrest etc and reset the cable/replace it..

I cleaned my laptop over the weekend so I decided to try to fix the fingerprint reader. There is only a single cable for the trackpad buttons and another for the trackpad itself. Removing the module would require taking apart the entire laptop, including the screen, so I decided to leave it be. Thanks for all the inputs.
